None that I've noticed, as long as you move it to a better place. The capital has an effect on corruption and public order, so you may want to experiment with moving it to find optimal place. The geographic centre may not be the best place if that means increasing corruption in your economic powerhouses, for instance.

Been experimenting with it. And it dont looks like there is any direct negative affects by relocating the capital, like the negative affect by changing faction hair, where the ex-hair get a bad trait.

SO to sum it up, you should always try and move your captal so that its in the senter of your empire to reduce corruption and increase order in your empire.

However, when relocating the capital I try to keep in mind the following. All new familiy members will start out in the capital, so I try and choose a capital that has some good infrastructure that will help to educate my new familiy members before i send them out to their own settlements.

i beg the lords; is this MTW-question?

    for MTW:

no, where your capitol is, has no noticeable meaning. it changes due to the number of buildings you have there.(not the development-level, total!)

    but where your king is...->

most often i got this *capitol-change* while raising many religious buildings + cathedral(16 turns),while the other provinces keep growing with a normal rate of 4/6/8 turn buildings

    Henoch,

This is actually for RTW. You can switch capitals in MTW? I had forgotten.

It looks like there may be no real penalties. I've found the same as everyone else; just keep your capital where it can have the greatest geographic public order benefit while still benefitting corruption in the largest of cities.

I never noticed places being called the capital in MTW - the only change I noticed was that heirs were crowned King in different provinces over the course of the game. For some reason, my lovely English Kings always ended up getting crowned in Ile da France, which for some reason greatly annoyed me!

And whilst we're on the subject - what ARE the rules about Cathedral placement? I want lots of them! :(

Regarding RTW, I personally don't think there should be a punishment for building a palace. In my opinion, this has only been added to provide some negative effect to moving palace for gameplay issues. Realistically, it isn't really that much of a deal. Civ3 (and Civ2 before it) force you to build new palaces - and in the current Civ3, the cost increases as your civilisation grows. I understand and agree with the idea of the cost growing as your civ does - more administration requires a larger centre. But the cost at all times strikes me as unreasonably high. Realistically, I don't think it would take that much construction to make such an administration centre. Yes, it would take some, but nowhere near as much as they make you pay in Civ3!

Perhaps a more realistic negative effect would be a change-over period (probably just a year or so) in which everywhere suffers as the administration system changes...

But I'm fine with no cost :)

IIRC, it had to do with tech development. Each building has an assigned tech level. The province with the highest in your kingdom was your 'capital'.

They were unique buildings, so you could only build one yourself. You could capture another though.

(For VI) If you want to build lots, search for "AGENT_PRODUCER, CATHEDRAL_INCOME, UNIQUE" in the CRUSADER_BUILD_PROD13.TXT file and remove the ‘, unique’. This should allow you to build lots of the other unique buildings, such as the military academy and college of surgeons. You will still need the 2nd top castle and a church in each province to build the cathedral.

Thanks... I don't typically mod the stats tho.

I forgot the Cathedral gave a title - I recall it gave a (rather small ;) ) income, so I was generally just after it for that. And to make everywhere look pretty :)

But I also seem to recall that I couldn't build it in some provinces - typically my best ones, Wessex and Ile de France. Generally Wessex is the most advanced province I ever have, although I admit I might have missed out on something important whilst going for ships there...

Thanks for the info, all the same :)
