Thread: Best line from a song

  1. #1

Default Best line from a song

Whether it's just your favourite line or if it applies to you or if it makes you smile or if it makes you cry....What do you think is the best line you've heard?

Mine would have to be from 'Time' by Pink Floyd....

...and then one day you find ten years have got behind you no one told you when to run, you missed the starting gun....

    Sums up my life...

    ....Orda

I can relate to that one.

For me, Heart rules the Head when it comes to music and lyrics. Most will likely think mine silly, but it is:

    "I will always love you."

Couldn't get it out of my head after my mom died. Seems to apply to so many other people now too. It's my fave.

    nice contrast.

I'm a big NiN fan too. One of my favorites of Trent's is:

... he flexed his muscles to keep his flock of sheep in line
He made a virus to kill off all the swine
his perfect kingdom of killing suffering and pain
demands devotion atrocities done in his name

    god is dead
    And no one cares
    if there is a hell
    I'll see you there ... .

How do you like this one?

    "Brothers everywhere,
raise your hands into the air.
We´re warriors, warriors of the world."

    Manowar

They also have a good song "Heart of Steel", but cant remember the lyrics right now....

Also Dylan´s "things have changed" is good.

And I liked Manson´s "I dont like the drugs but the drugs like me"

Alice Cooper's classic 'School's Out!' contains one verse that perfectly captures the essence of rock

First line of "Plaistow Patricia" by Ian Dury and the Blockheads. Unfortunately Org policy will only allow me to quote it as

    "********s, ********s, ****ing ****s and *****s"

We all feel like that some days.

Oh and the line about Tina in her Cortina and how a Hyena couldn't have been more obscener.

    A lyrical genius RIP.

"Singing and we-swinging and we-ringing for invention and the pure confusion there. Ravin' and a-ranting and a-chanting revolution but a-pure confusion there. The 3 last verses of Dylan's masters of war:

    How much do I know
    To talk out of turn
You might say that I'm young
    You might say I'm unlearned
But there's one thing I know
    Though I'm younger than you
    Even Jesus would never
    Forgive what you do

Let me ask you one question
    Is your money that good
    Will it buy you forgiveness
Do you think that it could
    I think you will find
When your death takes its toll
    All the money you made
Will never buy back your soul

And I hope that you die
    And your death'll come soon
    I will follow your casket
    In the pale afternoon
And I'll watch while you're lowered
    Down to your deathbed
And I'll stand o'er your grave
'Til I'm sure that you're dead

and the whole of Like a Rolling Stone (Dylan too)

Once upon a time you dressed so fine
You threw the bums a dime in your prime, didn't you?
People'd call, say, "Beware doll, you're bound to fall"
You thought they were all kiddin' you
    You used to laugh about
    Everybody that was hangin' out
Now you don't talk so loud
Now you don't seem so proud
About having to be scrounging for your next meal.
    How does it feel
    How does it feel
    To be without a home
    Like a complete unknown
    Like a rolling stone?
You've gone to the finest school all right, Miss Lonely
But you know you only used to get juiced in it
And nobody has ever taught you how to live on the street
And now you find out you're gonna have to get used to it
    You said you'd never compromise
With the mystery tramp, but now you realize
    He's not selling any alibis
As you stare into the vacuum of his eyes
And ask him do you want to make a deal?
    How does it feel
    How does it feel
    To be on your own
    With no direction home
    Like a complete unknown
    Like a rolling stone?
You never turned around to see the frowns on the jugglers and the clowns
When they all come down and did tricks for you
You never understood that it ain't no good
You shouldn't let other people get your kicks for you
You used to ride on the chrome horse with your diplomat
Who carried on his shoulder a Siamese cat
Ain't it hard when you discover that
He really wasn't where it's at
After he took from you everything he could steal.
    How does it feel
    How does it feel
    To be on your own
    With no direction home
    Like a complete unknown
    Like a rolling stone?
Princess on the steeple and all the pretty people
They're drinkin', thinkin' that they got it made
Exchanging all kinds of precious gifts and things
But you'd better lift your diamond ring, you'd better pawn it babe
You used to be so amused
At Napoleon in rags and the language that he used
Go to him now, he calls you, you can't refuse
When you got nothing, you got nothing to lose
You're invisible now, you got no secrets to conceal.
    How does it feel
    How does it feel
    To be on your own
    With no direction home
    Like a complete unknown
    Like a rolling stone?

"A hundred stairs to her new room
    Over glass and blackened spoons
    Children grow old so soon
Past the kids who gather there
    Pain masked by narcotic stares
    But no one really cares
Her dreams were cut up and bled dry
A million voices in her cry" - The Levellers - Julie

Crab locker fishwife pornographic priestess boy you been a

"Me and my girl we got this relationship
I love her so bad but she treats me like shhh
All locked down like a penitentiary
She spreads her lovin all over and when she gets home there's none left
    for me

Evil come to tell you that she's evil most definitely
Evil, ornry scandalous and evil most definitely
The tension is growing hotter I'd like to hold her head underwater..." - Sublime - Doin' Time

    "Ah, ah,
We come from the land of the ice and snow,
from the midnight sun where the hot springs blow.
    The hammer of the gods
Will drive our ships to new lands,
To fight the horde, singing and crying:
    Valhalla, I am coming!
On we sweep with threshing oar,
Our only goal will be the western shore.
    Ah, ah,
We come from the land of the ice and snow,
from the midnight sun where the hot springs blow.
How soft your fields so green,
    Can whisper tales of gore,
Of how we calmed the tides of war.
    We are your overlords.
On we sweep with threshing oar,
Our only goal will be the western shore.
So now you’d better stop and rebuild all your ruins,
For peace and trust can win the day
Despite of all your losing." - Led Zeppelin - Immigrant Song

"Though I know that evenin's empire has returned into sand,
    Vanished from my hand,
Left me blindly here to stand but still not sleeping.
My weariness amazes me, I'm branded on my feet,
I have no one to meet
And the ancient empty street's too dead for dreaming." - Bob Dylan - Mr. Tamborine Man

    "all the guys
    that really have the money
    are too old

too old to have a fast car and drive it" - Porno for Pyros - Cursed Man

"I've been to hell. I spell it...I spell it DMV
Anyone that's been there knows precisely what I mean
Stood there and I've waited and choked back the urge to scream
And if I had my druthers I'd screw a chimpanzee
    call it pointless

When I need relief I spell it THC
Perhpas you may know vaguely what I mean
I sit back and smoke away huge chunks of memory
As I slowly inflict upon myself a full lobotomy
call it pointless" - Primus - DMV
    This is my world
    And I am
    World leader pretend

    all my traumas hinge upon
    some convoluted axiom
of the cube of x plus y
    equals itself divided by --
    where have you gone?
