Just wanted to share with you folks what happened to my first campaign last night. I've read others saying something similar but hadn't seen it, until now.
It seems that my faction (Julii) had grown too powerful, the senate got nervous and demanded that I force my faction leader to suicide! No chance of that. You are now outlawed! Brutii and Scipii then followed suite and declared war!!
Thankfully I had a sizeable force stationed near Patavium and immediately ordered them to seige Rome. My standing amoungst the plebs was such that a scroll urging me to take control was delivered... don't mind if I do.
The Sentate garrison had (has) me outnumbered, though my 4 onagers even up the forces. The Rome garrison sallied! They came storming from the gates of the great city in their hundreds, a great purple tsunami of steel. And died as they charged. Great flaming projectiles rained upon them, arrows plunged through armour so that by the time they reached my ranks of Legions they were decimated, but brave men as they are they fought with courage.
Since I didn't have enough men to take the city I knew I couldn't move forward, I was content to destroy their garrison as much as possible and move when reinforcements arrived. Some 700 Senate troops died that day, to less than 200 of my own. But the most memorable moment? The huge gates of Rome rumble open to release another wave of soldiers, behind them Rome is aflame. Pillars of smoke billow into the afternoon sky as the men march to their doom!
After the Draw was declared the Senate then sued for peace. I accepted but I don't think it''ll last.
PS
Also finding it pretty easy to bribe Brutii armies at the moment. Very cheap too.
