Default What Date Does The Campaign End?

I know that in Medieval Total War the game ended, or the turns ran out, thus ending the game, around 1452 BC or something similar.

Does Rome Total War have a similar thing? And if so, what is the run out date?! I personally HATE those dates, even if I was up to the year 2004, and it was still Roman times, I wouldnt care, I just hate deadlines in a game such as this.

I've heard the date 14 AD thrown around (the death of the historical Augustus Caesar), though I'm not sure that anyone has actually run up against that deadline. I know from experience that any date up to at least 240 AD is valid, using the command-line to modify the date and advancing a turn.

Tamur is right, it's from 270BC to 14AD, and I'm pretty sure I could build a 50 province empire, disband all of my armies, give 49 provinces away, then build it all up again before the 14AD date. It's a lot of time, and the game moves pretty swiftly by TW standards.

I'm stuck with some nine cities, and am embedded in a hard war vs. all of the Romans. I dont see myself making a massive Empire in anytime soon, at least 50 years, 100 moves, before I can start it going well, if I can defeat these guys.

Also, how do you make the end date longer, if its needed?

Siris I am in the same situation as you but fighting both Scipii in Africa and Brutii in Greece (the greeks were my allies), but after you defeat the romans everyone else will grovel before you. The romans are the hardest to defeat and after them you can roll over the weak barbarian factions to gain provinces.

The starting and ending dates are in the decrp_strat file IIRC. You can change them there.

Yeah, I simply added a zero to the fourteen, making it 140AD. Not sure why, now. Through six campaigns, I've yet to even reach the First Century BC. Let's see, 114 years X 2 = 228 moves, + another 200 I added. Yup. That's overkill. Maybe knowing how to alter some of this stuff isn't necessarily a good thing. But it's an addiction, isn't it?

All campaigns have a "break point". That is to say they are challenging and difficult and then you break out. A big win and a few cities and then it is all just a gigantic mop up operation. Unless one is intentionally avoiding conquest I do not see even the hardest faction taking to the AD to win... or lose.

On the other hand I am considering doing just that in my next game. Not taking anything for 100 years or so and just watching the AI dance around me and see what happens. :)

I would have thought they'd finish the game at around 410AD. After all, that is the date when the roman empire in the west collapsed, isn't it?

If you just want to play it out and don't care for the "victory" screen (which isn't much IMO), then just keep playing, no need to mod. As per a dev :
When does the game end? Can I carry on playing?

The game ends in 14 AD. That's the date the game works out whether or not you've won or lost. Either way, you can carry on playing just to see what happens, although the game won't declare a win after this date.

As for why it ends in 14 AD, i guess part of it is practical reasons (number of turns) and it's also the year Augustus died, and is generally considered the beginning of the pax romana

Stated 14bc/ad summer on the script. Can see that on the file you downloaded (factions unlocker).

Just open it and take a peek, can change it if you like. Not sure what are the limit game play pass 14bc/ad.
