Military Access - Get orf my land

Why is it that the AI is able to walk armies all over your territories yet you get a snotty message from the Senate if you walk into an ally's lands.

Should it not be that army units (excluding rebel) should not be permitted to enter your territory unless there has been agreement for military access. At present I see no reason to conclude military access with anyone else nor have I ever been asked for military access by any other faction EVER!!.

If a military unit from another faction enters your territory without having gotten military access rights - this should be an act of war. Or the offender could be given, say, 2 turns to leave your territory or war will follow.

There is no reason at present in the game to pursue military access. Nor is there any consequence to anyone entering one of your territories.

This must be another glitch in the game that CA needs to look at.

Has anyone else noticed this problem??

Yes, it's a known issue.
You get messages from the senat or, when playing other non-roman factions from the respective enemy faction, to leave their lands in two turns.
In return the player lacks any option to threaten enemy armies off his lands.
Needs fixing.

what's missing is a GET OFF MY LAWN sign option, next to the fort and watch tower, that your generals can put up along the borders of your land.

Failing that, there should be an option to send a diplomat to an intruding allied unit, with a GET OFF MY LAWN option that will either force the "allied" unit to retreat (like when they withdraw from battles) or breaks the treaty and allows you to slaughter them.

As it stands right now it's dumb because I've never been able to get Military Access from any of my allies (not even when my ally Dacia has 1 city left, no armies, and an nme Scythian army holding it under siege...) nor is there any mechanism, at least that we see, that mimics the rebuke we get from the Senate.

I think it goes like this...

If you go on an ally's land without Military Access agreed the Senate tells to to get off...

If you are not a Roman faction nobody says anything...

The game effect is apparantly you annoy another faction by leaving your troops on their lands. This is a hidden rating used in deplomacy and effect the likelihood of that faction agreeing to your terms in a deal and can increase the likelihood of them chosing you as their next target...

So if a faction is letting it's troops march all over your lands they are stating they do not care what you think of them... And if they also refuse to ally with you then they are eying you up as their next target...

You can discourage wandering armies by placing your own armies next to them and shadowing them on your lands..

As for a "Get off my Land" diplomacy statment, I think that would be great...

It never occurred to me about any hidden use for this happening, but now you have explained it, it makes good sense. I still think that the prog. needs tweaking to make Military Access more usable in the game.
I like Servius idea of sending diplomats off to challenge 'invaders' with a GET OFF THE GRASS order as it makes them more useful in the game too. This should definitely be incorporated into the gameplay.

Yesterday I wanted to take a shortcut over Scythian land, I didn't see anyone nor any watchtower, but the moment I put my foot on their soil I got a message that I really offended them and I should reconsider my actions.

No problem, your pointy Madness.

Allied? No, at the time we were neutral.
In fact we didn't even meet each others armies or agents.
It did happen to me before but I don't remember how the circumstances where.

I've had the same thing, too. I took a shortcut across Spanish land in my current Gaul campaign, and had the "Transgression" message pop up. We weren't allies at the time, and I hadn't declared war on them yet.

What I find irritating is some of the responses. In a previous game, I (as the Bruti) owned a big chunk of Asia Minor, including Tarsus. The Armenians were at war with Pontus, and owned Antioch. They kept marching troops from Antioch, past Tarsus, up into the remaining Pontic lands. I had my diplomat talk to them, and offer them military access for a fee. They respond with "We have no intention of marching our troops across your lands", when they've currently got three armies on my lands. There's no diplomatic option for calling them a lying sack of crap, either.

Well you (that is Romans) are civilised people. You just don't do that. (Gentlemen never run ). On the other hand... what would you expect from a bunch of barbarians? CA knows better. (Sorry, CA, I really love the game but can't help it )

Would that mean war or not? You have the legal right to protect your land.

I've had a few squatters from time to time, but the worst was my current campaign right after I took Crete. The very next turn, there stood TWO full stacks of hoplites with a general. Nice. Waited for the attack I could never repulse. No attack. Still there three turns later. Please leave. Now, becoming VERY irritating, 'cause we weren't at war. Figured I might as well torture them, too. Wanna buy a map? Suuuuure. Next turn, wanna buy a map? Suuuure. This went on for some time, with no intent to move on their part. After five or six turns of selling maps at 2000 denarii a pop, I bribed them with their money. They paid for their own departure. Gotta love this game. On the other hand, we should have an option to demand their removal--or else. Only other time it's happened to me was when two stacks of Thracians decided to squat beside Byzantium. After a couple of turns, I had accumulated enough "extra" troops in the area to snuff them. I really hated to do that, because I was trading with them, and I didn't need the minor territories they held. So, yes, we should definately have an option. If this isn't a bug or glitch, then CA put it in to give the AI an advantage. If so, I just plain don't like being intimidated.

EDIT: Jagger, it definately means war. But not if you bribe them, though I feel that a bribe is an act of aggression, also. CA doesn't seem to think so.

In a previous campaign, I finally got around to attacking Byzantium (I forget who owned it, but it wasn't Thrace) and when I did, there were SEVEN Pontic armies standing around it. The owner wasn't at war with Pontus, (and never had been at war with them that game), but there were all those armies, just standing there doing nothing but catching rays and soaking up money from the treasury. I guess they just like the beaches near Istanbul or something. So, it's apparently not just the human player who has this issue.

Its funny but I had a family member (Julli) marching with a small army through a Spanish region with no message saying I shouldn't be doing it.!

The Senate will only tell you to leave a region if you're trepassing on the territory of an ally with whom there is no military access treaty. If they are not allied, hostile acts such as trespass will be tolerated by the Senate - it's your problem if you wind up the locals. Hostile acts do indeed affect diplomatic negotiations.

i got the problem with some brutii standing right outside one of my major city's (im am germania btw) i have parked my full stack über army, i am afraid to move. they'l attack once i move them :(

Yes, in your case a 'get orf my land' diplomatic option would be very appealing. At the moment the only way to remove a neutral or allied AI army from your land is to physically remove them. We need a way to diplomatically remove them.
