Thread: Two tips for RTW success

Default Two tips for RTW success

Here are two tips to enhance your game play and help you succeed in the game.

    1. To help with game economics, change the value of the tradable resources by altering the export_desc_resources (I think that's it). That is, making their value higher. I doubled them all and increased the value of slaves to the same value as gold. I've played two campaigns this way and have not experienced any budget problems. YOU STILL NEED TO PLAY THE GAME PROPERLY TO RECEIVE THE TRADE INCOME.

    2. To get troops fast and to decrease the threat of your Roman allies, place diplomats by each Roman capital and bribe their armies. You'll be able to get family members (particularly from the senate) and high quality troops this way and of course, take them away from your competitors. Of course, the same can happen to you so keep your troops garrisonned and make sure you have a spy in each settlement to avoid the loss of your troops to AI bribery.

No offense, but the game is already easy as it is so there's no point exploiting it further.

Struggling with your budget is one of the strategic aspects of the game. What's the challenge if you have unlimited funds? You can build as many troops as you want and just steam roll over the other factions... boring.

There is only so far you can reduce trade income. Even if you remove all tradable resources, there will still be trade income. See this thread for more info.

Struggling? Struggling? what are thee talking about? The vanilla game brings in so much money, you can afford to buy a huge city every turn in mid game (if you had a relative success early on).

If you want a financial challenge, try the Total Realism Mod. I am playing Greek city states (a relatively rich faction, in the vanilla game) and I am just entering late game. Controlling more than 25 provinces (all the rich Asia Minor and middle east, included) and I am actually struggling with the lack of money - none of my cities is fully build, I haven't bribed a single enemy city (only a rebel city, in the game start) - because I ain't got the cash to do so - and I even hesitate to build Spartans because of the high cost (purchase and upkeep).

Try that for some actual struggling...
When the going gets tough, the tough shit their pants
