Thread: unit size and game speed

Default unit size and game speed

I used to play with normal (40 men) unit size, and just started a new game on huge, and it seems to me like the game speed during battles has significantly increased. Can anyone confirm this, or am I just imagining things?

Seems the same here, its odd.
I pledge allegiance to the underworld One nation under dog,There of which I stand alone,A face in the crowdUnsung, against the mold
    Without a doubt
    Singled out
    The only way I know

Stepped out of the line,Like a sheep runs from the herd
Marching out of time,To my own beat now
    The only way I know

One light, one mind,Flashing in the dark
Blinded by the silence of a thousand broken hearts

"For crying out loud" she screamed unto me
A free for all,Screw 'em all
    You are your own sight

Maybe it's because there's less room to manuever it seems like units move faster?

You should also remember larger unit sizes place a heavier drain on population.

The RTW engine does do a fantastic job on framerates & autoadjusting for specific computers. That's one aspect of this game I've been impressed with. In large/huge sizes it actualy runs better than MTW!

The point is. there've been complaints by some that the game plays too fast and there've even been mods to remedy this, though none of them are quite perfect, from what I read. If unit size selection really does impact game speed, that would open up lots of new opportunities to modders, e. g. Increase all units' base sizes and select lower unit size in-game, or something like that.

I greatly prefer huge unit sizes, but the game starts crashing for me in battles with them on. Runs perfectly smooth, just crashes. A shame, the phalanx is a more satisfying unit on huge sizes. Especially Greek ones with their abnormally small unit sizes.

Large units move faster when making a turn, becasuse 1 side turns normally but the other side speeds up to adjust and catch up so the ranks are even
