    Default Hoplite Usage Question

When I see the enemy's general (or any other enemy) commit to a frontal charge against my Spartan hoplites, I usually make them stop (if they're moving) and just let them take the charge it since the enemy is running into a wall of spears. But I been wondering if that's the right way. Should I instead have my hoplites attack at the last second. I tried this, but formation seem to break and informed into a sword fight instead. (BTW phalanx formation was on)

There is a good discussion on using phalanx units here. frogbeastegg's Beginner's Guide also has a useful summary.

BTW, there are a number useful threads for information on RTW in the forum index, from where I've taken these two links.

Thumbs down Re: Hoplite Usage Question

I use guard this area and let them absorb the attack then flank with what ever fast units I have because most of the time my archers have thinned out what ever unit has attacked.

i like turning them around to provoke a charge than turning back; phalanx; cavalry on a stick!

Engaging cavalry, the hoplites are superb. But they can also be surprising effective and useful when flanking other heavy infantry.
    Hear me:
There are many ways to power.
But know this: while strength is important, it is the most rigid tree that is shattered by the storm, just as hard stones are lifted and hurled by the wind.
When the calm comes and soft rains fall, they fall upon the living grasses that laugh at the storms.
