The cursor just becomes an 'X' every time I order a unit (yes, units that can sap) onto or near the point.

are you sure the Sap point hasn't been destroyed and that the units CAN sap? I have never had any problems with it (except when i tried to sap with a unit of Arcani and later realised they can't sap)

You aren't trying to do this in the deployment phase are you?
Or, if they're phalanx units, have you taken them off phalanx formation?
Use peltasts or archers. I typically use peltastats to dig my holes, but only for superior strong walls, like Epic's, so I can ensure I take the city.
I've been having the same problem - every time I've used sap points, I can't get any units to do the sapping. I've tried skirmishers, infantry, archers, in phalanx, out of phalanx... All I get is the X and the message saying 'Sap Point 0% damage'. I can get units to pick up and put down siege gear fine, just not use the sap points.
Any help?
Try running the cursor over different parts of the sap point. Siege engines in general have a small hotspot, and I sometimes get an X, only to move the cursor a little and get the sap icon.
The only other thing I can think of is that you are using depleted units, and their might be a minimum man number for sapping.
Sorry if these end up not being helpful, but I've never heard of anyone having the problem, so its kind of a crap shoot.![]()
Yup, that's exactly it. I've tried mousing over every part in and around the sap points, to no avail. Right now my only option on city assaults is to overwhelm the walls with heavy infantry and manually open the gates for my cavalry.Originally Posted by Fridge
Like others have said, some units can't sap, you can't assign sappers until you start the battle, etc. Sapping can be very usefull, especially on the larger walls. One of the biggest complaint of MTW was not being able to move seige units. Well, bless CA, now we can. So why can't WE choose where we're going to establish a sap? It seems the AI always places them in the worst possible place, and on the side of the city with no avenue to the town center and within range of the towers. Nice. Let me place them.
