Question Hey, Where Are You Going?!!!!!

I am playing the single player campaign. I have noticed that on several occasions that when I group units and try to send them into a fight they will turn and go in the opposite direction or not move at all.

Last evening I was assaulting a fort and tried to get my archers, grouped, into said fort. They turned around and went further away from the fort. I finally had to move them individually into the fort, and march them individually up to the town square. This same type of behavior has also happened with Velites and other groupings.

I also observe odd behavior when I put a group under AI assistance.

Am I doing something wrong or is there a bug here? This was never a problem in STW or MTW.

There is a problem with using groups and moving through cities, but I'm not familiar with the details. I moved units singly after hearing all the complaints.

I've had this problem in open field battles also, not just in cities. Last night was a classic. I was using some Equites to draw the charge of some barbarian heavy cav, while advancing some Hastati to intercept. At the critical moment i double clicked to charge my Hastati and my Equites decided to stop and try to charge themselves. In the ensuing confusion approx. 100 Equites went to 33. Needless to say i was very annoyed.

Not that it mattered anyway, 2 minutes later i had a power cut. Which put an end to my RTW campaigning for the rest of the night... and all other electricity based pass times for that matter! The pub was quite nice in candle light though!

I have still not encountered this problem, maybe because I move my units individually when inside a city or fort.

Yes, I have had this in open field also. It is a frustrating BUG I would say. You could have numerical advantage and the momentum going in your direction, and suddenly you have units, containing up to a few hundred men running in the wrong direction as your forward units now get mowed down and routed because there was no relief.

This can definitely spoil the battle map portion of the game.

I have entirely quit grouping units when attacking settlements because this bug is so annoying. It is made even worse if you happen to put your units in 'single file'. Cav are particularly sucseptable to this but and I have issued orders and come back later only to find all my cav at the edge of the map.

The other issue I have with grouping sometimes is that I will select one group to paint them on the map but it will actually paint more than that group. The only way around this is to ungroup everybody for that battle.
