Under siege by the Armenians, who had 800 troops they attacked after having put together 2 rams, in the wooden walled city I had a no star general, 2 hopolite units, one pelast unit, & two milita cav. all slighty under full str.
Normally I'd just auto resolve & avoid the humiliation, but figured I better at least try to give them a bloody nose, as I was losing on almost all but 1 front.
They attacked head on, & I sent the two hop units to hold the two wall breaches, while sending the 3 cav units round the side in the hope of routing a unit or 2 before being exterminated.
The 2 milita cav. managed to cause some minor damage to 2 velite units before running away, while my gen went down to 2 men within seconds, while I'm double clicking like crazy trying to get him out of the melee; he fled...In the meantime the gates are down & there's another breach just to the right.
Then things started to go right, the hop units held, my 3 cav units now comprising, 2 men (gen. unit) 6 & 10, stopped before leaving the field altogether. I regrouped them & started picking off the units that had been routed by the hop's at the walls. In the end their general fled & their entire army routed.
Of course the next time I tried to pull off an "against all odds number" I got a good trouncing, but hey you never know.
