The whole place used to be named the Sword Dojo during the STW phase. When the medieval facelift occurred, the name "Guild" was chosen as a more appropriate name for a medieval forum.

Since MTW2 is going to be the next one, it doesn't even need to be changed.

i think it refers to the merchant guilds of venice in the late middle ages.
