Thread: Tidying up the troops

    Question Tidying up the troops

Still on my first full campaign I prepared for battle. As I arranged my weakened units of hastati in a line it dawned on me. Is there anyway of tidying up your units into full strength ones as in MTW?

    Thanks

2 ways when the stack is selcted press the M key. The other is to drag a unit over another and realease.

EDIT it has to be done on the campaign map, this cannot be done on the battle map

When a fox kills your chickens, do you kill the pigs for seeing what happened? No you go out and hunt the fox.

I don't think there is an automatic tidy all units up switch like MTW, but I hated that switch anyway. I am sure it led me to lose generals sometimes.

Manually, it is the same as before - pre-battle, on the campaign screen, drag one unit onto another. In MTW, it was good to drag the one with fewer upgrades of weapon and armour onto the other. Some have said this is not true in RTW.

One different thing about RTW is that when you retrain, your units are increased to full strength but maintain their experience. You can also retrain 10 at a time. For this reason, I would say it is best not to merge units but wait to get back to town - unless you really don't want to recruit more of that kind of troop.

    Thanks.

I was just wondering because after the reforms you're often left with a lot of troops you can't retrain back to full strength even though you can up their equipment.

    I'll give it a whirl.

I think it's the first but I can't do accents, except an outrageous French one.

I also set regroup cities for understrenght, outdated, veteran units, like Masillia for western provinces, Larissa for the greek ones and sardis for Asia Minor. There they can regroup to fight again.
