Idea: Islam Total War

Okay, I don't know anything about modding so I wouldn't be leading this mod, but I thought it would be a great idea if someone got a mod going centering around the Islamic (specifically the Abbasid) empire.

The landmass that the area would cover would be the Middle East (Iraq, Iran, Palestine, Egypt, Afghanistan, etc) and down the East African coast including Sofala and Great Zimbabwe.

The timeframe I'm just sketching would be from the time of the first crusade (1095) until the fall of the Abbasid dynasty.

So if anyones interested, I and many others, would greatly appreciate your work.

(PS: This is just a rudimentary sketch, so obviously an Islam Mod would be more specific than what I listed).

This is a map that I just edited to show the area that could be covered. I don't know exactly the scope that R:TW can cover, so there definitely can be expansions to the west of Africa and to the east of Afghanistan (I believe eastern expansion would be much more favorable).

Baghdad fell in 1258. 1258-1095=163 years=326 turns. This was just a preliminary date that I came up with off the top off my head. Someone more informed than me would probably see a better date.

Mongols took Bagdad in 1258 yes, I believed the Abbasids had fallen to Turks a little earlier, but I looked it up and was wrong...

It looks like I'll need to come back later with a more impressive post.. any recommended readings for background history on this topic? I may not be able to provide significant modding help (I've never been a good modder. If I can, I'll try to learn how to add/edit factions), but I'd at least like to be able to offer a historical type of aid. Im particularly interested in the Christian kingdom in Ethiopia and any of the other significant Muslim kingdoms ruling (such as those in Afghanistan, etc.) and definitely the Abbasid/Turkish militaries.

I think the time period of 1095-1258 is a good timeframe atm, it may be a good idea to start a little bit before the first crusade, but I do not know if it's within modding capabilities to make Christian crusaders end up in Palestine.
