Default Are we sure about the Wonder bugs?

I've read and posted about the wonder bugs. From what I've read the bug concerns the perpetual happiness of Zeus? going away after a few turns, like the happiness from capturing any wonder.

But, I'm in possession of all 7 wonders now, and I don't think any of them work after the initial first few turns. I've got the Pyramid and my biggest problem is down in Egypt. I've got the Mausoleum? and my Urban Barracks is taking 6 turns.

I don't think any of the Wonders are providing lasting benefits.

    Has anyone else seen this.

P.S. Some of the wonder names may not match their effects, but you know what I'm talking about.

You still have culture penalties in your Egyptian cities?

Playing the Brutii, I got Rhodes early on and had 40% increase to my trade all the way to the end. I didn't have any money problems after that!! By the way I think a 40% increase to trade is a bit unrealistic don't you think. I mean if you have a few good trading cities, with this bonus there is almost no challenge left. I was building recruiting like crazy and still scoring +20000 profits every turn.

The other wonders are easy to check. Save your game, and then give one of those cities away. You'll instantly see the difference. The only one that could be hard to check is the Pharos.

Urban barracks take 7 turns to build normally so I think it is working. Besides the exact bonus the mausoleum gives is a 20% build time reduction for buildings that take more that 5 turns to build so with that in mind it's like this urban barracks take 7 turns to build so, 7*20%=1.4, 7-1.4=5.6, round up to to nearest whole number, and the build time is 6 turns no problem there. As for the Zeus loyalty thing it think it does work after I take it as the Brutii I have very little in the way of loyalty problems until my cities get to the major city/huge city level. Then I just train praetorian and urban cohorts to keep order in my cities. Most of you talk like "yay with Zeus I don't need a garrison anymore". Sorry the correct answer was you won't need a huge garrison right away would you like to play again? As for the collosus and the lighthouse of Alexandria their bonuses are hard to quantify, ship range bonus and sea trade increase. I've never conquered the hanging gardens before, so I've no clue what bonus they give. Same deal for the pyramids.

Hanging Gardens is a farm bonus. I usually don't concentrate on that part of the city screens, so I don't know if it's really working.

I've got the Pyramids, and still need 10 Town Watch in the 3 Nile cities, and when the gov of Thebes died, they went into revolt. 10 Town Watch is enough for each of the newly captured cities on the eastern rim of the Med. So, I wonder about the Pyramid wonder's lasting effect.

And your calculation on the Mausoleum and Urban Barracks is correct. I forgot that thing takes 7 turns.

The way to help with that is build your buildings in the nile cities that will reduce the cultural penalty, which is where some of your troubles are coming from. The government buildings and temples give big cultural penalties as do entertainment and happiness and fear buildings like theaters, taverns, and execution squares.

The pyramids only remove cultural penalties from Egyptian buildings. If you have a save game where you've taken the pyramids and haven't built too much in your Egyptian cities then check to see if you have no cultural penalties. If that's the case, then they're working.

You'll still get large squalor and distance to capital penalties so expect to have to keep large garrisons in the three Nile provinces.

The first thing I do after taking a city is knock down their shrine/temple and starting building one of my shrines, always the first. So, I have at least a native shrine at the first turn of my occupation. I also of course repair all the buildings that were damaged in the fight.

But, how do I take out the old gov't buildings? Aren't those indestructible and can only be upgraded with new population steps?

Fear buildings? I've seen taverns and execution squares. How are taverns bad for culture? I think I left an exe square standing in one of those Nile provinces, I'll have to look.

My standard build path after a new pop step is: Gov't House, Temple, Arena, Library, Forum, then roads, ports and finally military.

Think of it this way roman arenas, greek theatres, barbarian taverns, and eastern/african execution squares all occupy the same space on the tech tree. That is they are all equivalent of each other, they are happiness generating buildings (or law giving). So when you conquer say a greek minor city as the romans and you leave the theatre standing it gives a cultural penalty to you governance of the city. As far as the cultural penalty given by the government building if it's the only thing in your city that is not from your culture the penalty is small but there.

The Maussoleum definitely works as advertised. Zeus degrades always in my experience.

You can of course let your Wonder province revolt and reconquer immediately to get renewed bonus. If you knock over any troop buildings then you will get just peasants to slaughter(though tough peasants), oh and leave your wall unrepaired for the next time...
