Default A problem with the senate

Hi!!! Everyone I am new to the Forum & I have a question for you guys

I was playing as the Julii family at middle level and I encounter a problem with the senate.

I was winning the game with 46 regions & my family filled the senate floor, out of the 6 position my family took 5 of the seats and the only one that is not taken is the lowest of the 6, quaestor. Then suddenly the senate order the suicide of my faction leader if not I will be outlawed.

I find it strange because my family holds 5 out of 6 seats so anything that is against my faction should be voted against.

After I check I found that my faction heir holds the highest position, Pontitex Maximus & I know my faction leader is hated by senate due to his minus senate popularity trail so I thought that maybe it’s due to this or my faction’s heir is thinking of taking over the family and do not wish to wait so he voted for the death of my leader so I go along with them and killed my leader.

I thought that was the end of all my problems

But two turns later my ex-faction heir, now faction leader is given the dead order by the senate. I find is disturbing and I check and again I hold 5 out of 6 seats in the senate and my current faction heir is not holding any office so this can’t be a coup

So do any of you guys know what happen here ?

By the way do you people know where are the total war screenshots kept after I have taken them in the game

Check your senate popularity, the line of red Julii shields at the left of the Senate Floor screen. If that standing is low (usually because the people likes you too much) you are going to be outlawed eventually, so dont risk you faction leader and just trigger the Civil war event. After you take Rome, there are no more problems with the Senate

I checked & found that my standing with the senate is only one miserable shield but I have ten full shields with the people. So does that means that the senate will just keep on asking for the death of my leader NO MATTER how many seats I hold? & does those plus senate popularity trail help in this ?

The Senate has proven itself as a bunch of bloodlusting lunatics, you'd better go and police them before this spills over.

Yup, thats right, you offices have nothing to do with the decision power you have in the Senate. The Senate popularity helps to a certain degree, but If you hold 46 provs and have 10 shields on the people's scale, its just time to take over Rome. They wont stop asking impossible things.

That’s a little disappointing to know that holding seats in the senate will not affect their decisions on things but it okay now because the senate is no problem after my sword fall on Rome

    I have another question

Is there something like civil war in RTW like MTW because I don’t see the loyal shield on my generals or captains ?

    Hi Shadow

Civil war happens in RTW but differently to MTW. Once you are outlawed as the romans (which is inevitable) you will then be at war with your fellow romans the Scipii, the Brutii and the SPQR. I'm not sure if non-roman factions have civil wars, I assume not.

    Shadow,

I think you've slightly misunderstood what the Senate floor screen is showing. Your family hold five out of the six available positions in the game. But those are not all the seats in the Senate. They are the administrative offices that run the Republic. In reality there were a lot more than six such positions. Behind them, just as in any democracy today there are many many more 'back-benchers'. I think there may have been 500 hundred or so of these positions in the Republic. It will be they who are mistrustful of your family's ambition and power. Time to invade the Republic and put the proscription lists up in the Forum!

I just assumed that when this happened the game was telling me to forget democracy and move on to total world domination.

What surprised me was that having thrown all my rivals out of Rome and the rest of Italy the game then demanded that I capture 15 more provinces before it would recognise my status as Emperor.

The Julii family have been banished to the barabarian forests of the north and the Scipii are baking their arses off in the deserts of North Africa.

I mean come on guys who else is there and why do I need your vote anyway?

The way the Roman senate positions works is that from the various senatorial class families some run for election or selection to the various public offices. Although in RTW they are nurfed some what in the real roman republic there were 2 consols, 6 praetors, quaestors, and adiles 1 pontificus maximus and censor. Unlike a modern senate the Roman senators weren't elected the plebs elected people to the postions I listed from the senators and other patrician classes (patrician=nobility). By the time Caesar was assassinated there were about 800 senators, 300 were senators by Caesar's appointment.
