Thread: Unlocking Factions
Suraknar 05:01 26/11/04
Hello,

I hope I am discussing this in the right area ;)

Also, I am not sure if this has been discussed before but has anyone actually been able to unlock the other factions without using the "All Factions Mod".

Because it hapened to me and I am not sure what Unlocked them.

I am thinking that the Factions become available when they are Completelly conquered, that is how close I can come to this, I started a Campaign as the Julii, and eliminated the Gauls and then Carthage, and when I tryed to start a new Campaign Gaul and Carthage were available as playable Factions.

Anyone has observed this aswell? Or maybe point me in the thread discussing this in case this is really old news.

From what I've heard is that you need to complete the Campaign once over before these factions are unlocked. Doesn't really matter if they're conquered or not I think....

Someone correct me if I heard wrongly

I believe each faction unlocks a few factions with campaign completion and also fully conquering a group may let you unlock them. But I have had some experience where the group did not become unlocked or where I unlocked a group I never fought. I think there are more requirements, maybe before unlocking you must finish campaign, or each faction gets a set of factions that are automatically unlocked after campaign. Also maybe all the romans unlock the most imminent threat to their lands. Julii=Gauls, Brutii=Macedon ians or Greeks, Scipii=Carthage. This seems likely because I have not conquered Carthage but I have unlocked them...

Your wrong. Sutle enough? No offense, just my personality lol!

Yea before I just downloaded in the all-ulockable-mod, I was playing as the Scippi, because their color is Blue and that is my favorite color, makes sense enough eh? Anyways back to the subject at hand; I conquered Carthage & another small faction, dont quite remember which one that one was. I then tried to start a new campaign, with Carthage, the roman families, and another faction that I dont remember as my choices; desiring to be the Greeks, is when I went ahead & got the patch. So yes, they unlock as you Completely conquer them as you go through the game. You do not have to finish your first Campaign to have them all unlocked, just as you go through and take them out, their unlocked. That's the way it is on my PC.

Some factions are unlocked simply by winning a campaign (short or long)

All factions can be unlocked by editing the Rome-Total War files.

Look in Data > world > maps > campaign > imperial_campaign

You need to modify the descr_strat text document so that all unplayable or locked factions appear under the playable heading. There is a post here somewhere that shows this; I tried to show how it would look but the formatting got eaten

Back up all files before doing anything

Siris,

He is actually right and you are partially right as well. Conquering another playable faction (ie. NOT Numidia or Spain) does make them playable however completing the Roman campaign is supposed to unlock all playable factions.

I'm surprised you even played as the Romans - I thought you would have modded the game immediately to play your beloved Spartans

That's not completely true. You don't have to stick with the usual paths of e.g. brutii vs greeks. On my brutii game, one of my fleets got off course because it kept getting attacked. So i landed in africa, and now africa is the green continent! Thanks to the brutii, i unlocked carthage.

In the Imperial Campaign folder to unlock Macedon, Spain, Numidia and other "non-playables" make the edit below. Do not unlock the Senate or slaves as you can't play as those factions reliably (just like the Pope and rebels in MTW.)

Change the lines of Descr_strat.txt as follows:

campaign imperial_campaign
playable
romans_julii
romans_brutii
romans_scipii
egypt
seleucid
carthage
parthia
gauls
germans
britons
greek_cities
macedon
pontus
armenia
dacia
scythia
spain
thrace
numidia
end
unlockable

end
nonplayable
romans_senate
slave

I meant that if you win the campaign with one of the roman groups or something you get their nearest neighbor, that is where their core enemies come from.....

i dunno, i may be new to the forum but i got the game the day it came out and how conquered the world twice (scipii, greece) and i think that any factions you personally destroy become yours to command. also any faction left alive when you win the game are drawn under your dominion.

note* i don't know how to put that little thing at the bottom yet so this has to do
weep not for the victorious dead but find vengance

That's your signature. Click "User CP" at the top (control panel) then click "edit signature".

- if you win imperial campaing all playble faction are unlooked
- if you win a short campaing defeated factions are unlooked

I am not sure if a faction is unlooked playing a short campaing when you defeat them without ending it or not.
