I'm giving Ashigaru more of a shot in my current Oda campaign, inspired by what I read here. At honor 2, they've proven useful, and they absorb hits in place of more expensive units. Beats taking casualties on my Samurai Archer units while they move into position. When they accompany my Daimyo or a high-ranking general, they stay in battle and give a good accounting of themselves.
