Default I'm still a noob, more questions

I'm playing Jullii and have conquered most of Gaul, but I still don't have legionaires. Well I think. I built a legionaire barracks and can only train that second level of infantry troops (forgot the name). And for some reason I can't upgrade to the next level after the legionaire barracks, I have enough money.

Another questions, on some instances, I have several units queued for recruiment and training. It takes for ever for those troops to be completed, like 2 or 3 turns. Is it because I don't have enough people in my cities?

How do I get Ballistas as Jullii?

What troops can perform the tortoise formation and when should I use it?

Also, after conquering Gaul, do I get to hire Gauls mercs?

The Early / Legionary Urban Cohort are all Post Marius units. You'll need to start an Imperial Palace or wait til one of the computer players starts to build it before the reforms happen. Then the cohort units become available.

A few units take 2 turns, pre Marius off hand - Wardogs, Roman Cavalry, Quinquireme, and some artillery. I don't know of any that take more than 2 turns. If your city is under siege, it won't produce any units, or buildings for that matter.

Right click on the units and you'll see their stats, off hand I don't remember which can form Testudo.

I'm not much on mercs, I don't know how you gain access to Gaullish mercs.

As democracy is perfected, the office of president represents, more and more closely, the inner soul of the people. On some great and glorious day the plain folks of the land will reach their heart's desire at last and the White House will be adorned by a downright moron.

all of the cohort units can form testuto, but right now its bugged and shouldnt be used unless you know what your doing, also you can hire mercanaries by clicking on your general in the field. mercenaries are random and zor (zones of recruitment) so in gaul you will be able to hire barbarian mercanaries

Pre Marius has Hastati & Principles, Legions appear only after the Marius event is triggered.

Each turn, only one unit is completed per town/city I think, no matter how large the city is.

Ballistas are from the Range building. The one that produces Archers.

For Gaelic Mercs I think they're know as Barbarian Infantry or Cavalry.

    Hope this helps
