Default Retraining exploit (maybe old news)

I don't know if anyone else has noticed this, but I stumbled upon a retraining exploit that goes as such:

Place all the units you desire retrained into the queue
After that is done, merge the units

All the units previously placed will be at full strength numbers wise, except the one from which soldiers were taken to fill up the other units. After they are retrained, any below normal strength will be taken to full strength, and the units at full strength will now be above normal strength. A simple example

3 units of principles, one at 50, one at 60, one at 70. Once merged, two at 81, one at 18 (if my math is correct). After retraining, the number should look like 92, 102, and 81.

This also works with ships. I've decided not to abuse it, but it does make for some interesting units. For instance, a unit of phalanx pikemen at 156 with unit settings on large (normally 120 or 121).
    While the wicked stand confounded
call me, with thy saints surrounded.

If it's old news then I didn't notice earlier It could be a useful trick to counterbalance the absurd melee bonuses the ships have on H and VH settings Honestly I don't think I'll use it.
