Default Free Star Wars "Battle of Yavin" and "Battle of Endor" games.

I just wanted to hep everyone to a couple of really fun free Star Wars games available for download.

They are the "Battle of Yavin" and the "Battle of Endor". Both were done by a modder named Bruno R. Marcos. They were very well reviewed in one of the gaming magazines a while back. I downloaded these babies a couple of months ago and had a great time with them.

The games are very cinematic arcade-like simulations of the space battles at the climax of Star Wars and Return of the Jedi.

One of the nice features of these games is that you're not all alone taking on the Imperial fleet. I'm not talking about a couple of wingmen either. You start Yavin in a group of 30 rebel fighters. Endor has whole FLEETS clashing, including an array of capital ships on both sides. Keeping your buddies alive is key in both games.

Go check it out. Lots of cool arcade-like space combat. Star Wars music. Super Star Destroyers. The Millenium Falcon. 'Nuff said.

Someone has already modded the mod and created a Star Trek Battle for Cardassia mod using the Endor game.

You can get the mods at http://www.bruneras.com/

For those of you who like WWII, the developer of this mod is using what he learned from the Star Wars mods to create a new WWII air war shareware game with levels set in both the Pacific and European theaters. Looks pretty good.

    "YEEHAW!"

Amazingly fun, but incredibly difficult. Haven't beat either.

Stupid laser guns! Always shooting me!

Yeah, both games have a pretty good learning curve. They're just frustrating enough to keep you challenged and coming back for more. After a while, things get much easier and you find yourself trying to beat your own records.

    Here's a few hints.

    Battle of Yavin:

Concentrate on destroying TIE fighters. Don't let them shoot down your buddies. Ground lasers and Star Destroyers are a lower level threat. Finish them off when the TIEs are down.

In the level just before you get to the trench, try to destroy the ground lasers on the right hand side before the Star Destroyer shows up. It makes life much easier for you and your little buddies.

When Vader is chasing you in the trench, turn off your radar (R). Then make big counter-clockwise circles to evade Vader's fire until Han saves your ass.

    Battle of Endor:

Kill! Kill! Kill! Blow up as many TIE fighters as you can. Every five TIEs you kill gets you a new proton torpedo.

If Lando asks for help, give it to him. The Millenium Falcon needs to survive until it starts its attack run on the Death Star. Lando is pretty good at protecting himself, and if you destroy enough TIE fighters he probably won't even ask for help.

Switch to proton torpedos when you attack the Star Destroyers. You have to knock out the round shield generators on top of the ship before you can do hull damage. Two torpedos and a little laser fire is usually enough to knock out each one.

Protect "Home One", the big Calamari mothership. Either destroy nearby Star Destroyers fast, or make sure to knock out the shipboard lasers facing Home One to reduce damage.

When the Super Star Destroyer appears, you've got to take it out before it destroys Home One. When you've done 50% hull damage to the Super Star Destroyer, you can finish it off with a Kamikaze run into the ships bridge.

    Both Games:

I use quad fire against TIEs, and switch to double fire against laser batteries in the trench.

    Enjoy!

Hm, the games seems to have been removed, or trafic must have exceeded the allowed maximum.
You may not care about war, but war cares about you!
