Thread: Royal Knights?

    Default Royal Knights?

Does anyone use Royal Knights in Multiplayer (MTW). Particularly Late Roayl Knights. They seem very expensive but more maneuverable and less apt to be killed due to better defense. Do the costs outweigh the benefits? Are they useful at all? Thanks in advance!

I think that the conventional wisdom has been that Royals are seriously hampered by the 20-man unit size.

My experience has always been to see a 40 unit Chiv beat the Royals, but there's a lot to account for. First, it is usually the newer guys that use Royals, and second, there is the valor upgrading (I've seen V2 Royals in a 10K game - again, new guys).

one on one (e.g. Royals on Chivs) the Royals might do well enough the delay the Chivs, maybe even gut them (leave like 7-8 exhausted Chivs after the Royals rout).

But in a mass the 20 man size seems to be the cause of big problem with being outnumbered. Outnumbered troops seem to take a big morale penalty, so imagine 3 Royals and a Feudal Foot Knight (100 men total) against 3 Chivs and Militia Sargent (180 men total).

I have seen a lot of Royal Generals over the years, but overall the consensus seems to be to go with the 40 man cav units.

Next time you see me online Elk let's test this out more.

And don't hesitate to post in the Jousting Fields (Org MTW MP Forum, we could use the traffic!!

Back in the days I spent 10 to 12 hours online MTW...

Royals are fun if you face a newbee as the king of your peasant army (militia sergs, mounted sergs, archers, spearmen, hobilars, urban militia etc.)
Royals may come in handy if there's a "2 max" rule applied to the game and you want some extra cav

But overall, royals simply suck.Simply go for chivs, templars or teutonics. Templars being cheaper but packing less punch due to lower charge.

But always remember, use what works best for you...
I'd never use royals.... I use camels Bwhahahahahaha

All can post in the MP forums, even Junior members

I have never bothered with the 20 man units as they are too costly. If they were half the cost of a 40 man unit they could be useful.
