    Default KOTOR: The platform question

Which one? PC or XBox. My PC just meets the min specs for KOTOR, a 1 Ghz processor, Mx420 Gfx card, 60 Gb hd, 256 Mb RAM. The PC is my preferred system for games, and the PC ships with new stuff that the XBOX versions lack (initially). However, I don't want to buy it a find that it runs choppy and is unplayable (most stores here don't allow returns). Does anyone know if my comp is good enough to hack it?

The XBOX version is guaranteed to work. A lot of the PC content is availabe with a quick Live download (although not all?). But, again, I prefer PC.

Another factor is KOTOR 2. If it comes out with higher PC specs, I will not be able to play it on PC. In that case, I would prefer Kotor and Kotor 2 to run on the same platform, the Xbox.

I liked it on Xbox. But then, I only really play the Total War games on my Comp, the rest of my games are on Xbox. It's just easier for me to control. I'll get KOTOR2 on Xbox to.

With your stats, I'd probably seriously consider the X-box version. I've played through it on a duron 1200 /256 MB / geforce 3 ti 200 and it was passable, though far from ideal. Assuming you've got an x-box and live, there's no reason to use the pc version instead. It's main advantage is that it has much better graphics and audio if your system can hack it - and yours isn't going to be able to.

Featurewise, if you've got X-box live they're practically identical. Mods for the PC version just aren't overwhelming either. Controlwise...well, matter of taste. I thought keyboard and mouse kicked the tail of the gamepad control, but it's essentially a matter of what do you like better.

With these specs, of course the x-box. The pc version has some more models, that's it. Why would you prefer pc anyway, star wars needs to be on a big fat tv with a larger then life soundsystem! By the way, IGN has a review of KOTOR 2, and they liked it. Ah well regardless the system, you are in for one hell of a ride! For some reason I neglected this game untill I found a used copy, and now it is the only game that I finished 4 times besides Thief (lost count with that one).

the PC version of the game is dumbed-down to the lowest common denominator of hardware anyhow, ie; Xbox. ie: even on the PC version you will have loading screens at least once every 5 minutes, often more (which if they took the time to do a good port, would never happen on the PC version), accessing the items in your inventory still takes forever etc. etc.

other than a few spiffy graphical improvements on the PC you're pretty much gonna be playing the exact same dumbed-down game, so might as well play it on the Xbox
