Getting into the computer games industry

I want to get into the computer games industry. I am presently doing AVCE ICT single award and will go onto do the double award. Then I want to go to university.

What would be the best course to do?

There are many forums out there where people who are actually in the idustry hang out and chat. I suggest finding them and asking the people who actually do it how they prepared themselves for the industry (I'd post a link but don't have any saved; I just use a search engine).

You can also go online and search for job opportunities in this field, and look at the skills and characteristics for which the employers are looking. There are many different things you can do in the game-making industry. If you are bold, contact the employer and ask them any questions that come to mind.

Computer science (and math), logic, marketing (all things business), art, graphic arts, and computer-based graphic arts, history--all of these areas come into play in game-making.

If you really want to do this: do your homework now. If you base your path of study for the next few years on assumptions, it can be devastating when you learn you've wasted a lot of time on something you didn't need, and have to redirect your efforts. This always comes to mind when I encounter young people in Uni who haven't decided what in which to major. Such a waste, imo ... .

One other thing: the sooner you can get a job in the industry itself the better. It doesn't matter what you do--mail delivery, janitor, whatever. What matters is that you are in, and have access to the others who are in, who are a tremendous resource waiting to be tapped by an ambitious soon-to-be success. Talk to people, learn the system, and make your moves.
