    Default Berserkers

Hey! I'm new here and this place seems really neat, not to mention informative.

This is just the byproduct of my obsession with all things fanatical and barbaric, but humor me.

Question #1:What is your experience with Berserkers?

Question#2:Know any way to use them effectively/counter them?

#1 No experience with them I never build the temple required

    # Use them as flankers / counter them like in MTW, send at least 2 units on them.

Germania has beserkers. I haven't used them in a while, so I forget which prerequisites they need. THey come in small units, but have 3HP each, making them a great ambush/flank force.

I remember once I had a silly game against a friend, I took one unit of berserkers, he took one unit of head-hurlers. Equal valour and whatnot. He won.

I managed to engage his men, and hovering over, it said victory was certain yada yada yada. But my men were dying out. He'd put his men into loose formation, and this kept his men alive long enough, and able to keep throwing things at mine.
Don't have any aspirations - they're doomed to fail.

    Rumours...

Wow, who'da thunk? I mean stat-wise Berserkers are definitely superior to head hurlers. I guess they dont like having decapitated, lime covered heads thrown at them. Or it could be the unit size. Berzerkers only come in units of 12

Berserkers are good all round units, they managed to chop their way through two hoplite units once. But my experience of them around cavalry isn't terribly brilliant....they all just stood there, letting themselves get turned into roadkill. I kept clicking for them to run away, but they just didn't listen!!

i had them rout an army of 1000 men... they were only 12... (losses from last battle) it was them, a little (very little) archer fire and 1 unit of nightraiders also helped after a while.... they got cav support when most of the enemy army was routing...
this was on M/M, but i was getting flanked and they countercharged. it was amasing! killed most of the other army...

I'm playing a German campaign, but haven't got to berserkers on the tech tree yet. Used them twice in custom battles. Once in a one-on-one battle, berserkers against barbarian warband, everyone having equal valor. Berserkers got creamed because of small unit size. I suspect that berserkers might have been designed with the fact that they are built from a temple in mind. (In other words, it is expected that they will be high in valor, so using a zero valor berserker unit in a custom battle might not be a good indicator of how they will perform in campaign mode).

A second time I used them in a city assault, and they performed quite well on the city walls coming off a seige tower and fighting some legionares.

the key to countering all barbarian units is formation depth - absorb the charge

how do you get head hurlers? I've never even heard of them!
