Thread: increase in numbers, why?

  1. #1

    Default increase in numbers, why?

i've been playing RTW for some time already and i've been viewing this site since MTW, but i've registered only recently.

i would like to know from anybody why some of my Carthaginian units increase beyond their standard strength. round shield cavalry, standard strength is 108, but some veteran units got to 141. the same goes to my long shield. i would be very grateful to anyone who can explain it.

Simply put, it's a bug. I think I've heard that it's caused by some interaction between merging and retraining.

It's a case where: Unit A has 1 man left out of a 40 man unit. Unit B, the same type of unit, has 40 men left. Unit A is ordered to retrain - have 39 men added to it. Unit B is then merged with Unit A. The retraining order is unchanged. Unit A ends up with 40 + 39 men = 79 (as opposed to 1 + 39 = 40). Unit B, after retraining, has 1 man, and can be retrained in the next round. This little bug could be used to have near double strength units - Urbans would be nice, or Arcani, Berserkers - well... anything vicious really, might make a phalanx rather more effective at small or normal unit sizes.

Oh, and welcome acheronsbane if you Styx around, it should be fun. I wonder who'll be Next to welcome you with a bad pun...

Don't have any aspirations - they're doomed to fail.
