Thread: Spartan Hoplites...How???

    Default Spartan Hoplites...How???

I'm playing Macedonia and have Sparta as my (huge) capitol city. Everything is upgraded, all military, farming, infrastructure, ect, and I have a pantheon that itself was upgraded from an awesome temple of Ares. I'm trying to build those oh so cool Spartan Hopelites but it's a no go.

Now I know by a neat little battle video that I downloaded from an org that Macedonia (Greeks) can build those guys (unless someone modded) because the vid shows them battling Urban Cohorts.

    Somebody? Anybody?

    Many thanks!

I just asked a similar question here - I think the problem is that you have to be the greek city states to build spartian hopelites

Thanks for answering Gunboat, I suppose then that the video was from someone who modded the game to allow Macedonia to build SH. Thats odd though as the MD actually have the Spartan logo and are very much Greek fellows, and thus (should) have the ability to train them.

If you *really* can't live without them (and they look kinda cool, I'll give you that) go edit the "export_descr_buildings.txt" file in the Data folder. All you really need to do is to add "macedon" into the brackets on the line "recruit "greek hoplite spartan" 0 requires factions { greek_cities, } and hidden_resource sparta".

'Course, the unit card and info panel are going to be showing just gray peasants. If that's too annoying, go look up the modding forums to see how to fix it.

    For each his own.

I and many others around the world are of the strong belief that the universe was created by a Flying Spaghetti Monster. --- Proof of the existence of the FSM, if needed, can be found in the recent uptick of global warming, earthquakes, hurricanes, and other natural disasters. Apparently His Pastaness is to be worshipped in full pirate regalia. The decline in worldwide pirate population over the past 200 years directly corresponds with the increase in global temperature. Here is a graph to illustrate the point."

First things first, think of the greek cities as seperate countries. Each did things differently.

Sparta was the most militirised city-state, followed by Conrith. Historically, it was very rich, as it had conquered other areas. As such, not as high a proportion of it's CITIZENS were farmers, and as such, it could have a permernant army rather than a hastily-raised hopelite phalanx.

Spartan hopelites trained from birth to fight; part of their training was killing slaves in the street. No other city-state practiced this, and as such they don't have spartan hopelites.
