Lost experience

I am playing a campaign with the Germans right now (H/H) and sometimes at the beginning of a battle some units loose one of their chevrons (my faction leader for instance loses one at the beginning of every battle). When the fight is done a chevron is added again, but this is not shown in the battle-stats (which makes sense).

Does anyone know why/how this happens?

I've also experienced this, but only for one of my generals. That general had a retinue giving him one level of experience. Assumed there is a bug that leave out that extra rank when going to battlefield mode.

I've heard of this and i'm sure that i read somewhere that it is only a display error; ie the unit still has the experience it just doesn't show.

Well I can live with that I guess (my faction leader has three golden chevrons right now so he will probably die of old age).

I've noticed this plenty of times - that it appears to be a display error is comforting indeed! What usually happens for me is:

1) Unit gains valor for action in the field - only sees new chevron at end of battle
2) Next battle, unit [sometimes] starts with correct chevrons, in deploy phase
3) When I start the battle, chevrons disappear (!!!)
4) Chevrons return [sometimes with new ones] after the battle is over and the results are displayed

Really annoying, especially when trying to distinguish units by their valor (ok, the no-valor units are fodder, this one has three chevrons, I'll flank with him... wait, what!??!). At least this isn't a serious bug.

I've also seen units actually gain a chevron of experience DURING the battle, so that their cards displays an extra one even before I end the battle..
