I have just about had it with managing the ridiculously insane fluctuations inherent to the economy of RTW.

Hear me:
There are many ways to power.
But know this: while strength is important, it is the most rigid tree that is shattered by the storm, just as hard stones are lifted and hurled by the wind.
When the calm comes and soft rains fall, they fall upon the living grasses that laugh at the storms.

In shogun and medieval, when I first started playing the game, ( a week or so) I always went into the read, I didn't do this in RTW, I think the economy is easier to maintain.
I pledge allegiance to the underworld One nation under dog,There of which I stand alone,A face in the crowdUnsung, against the mold
Without a doubt
Singled out
The only way I know
Stepped out of the line,Like a sheep runs from the herd
Marching out of time,To my own beat now
The only way I know
One light, one mind,Flashing in the dark
Blinded by the silence of a thousand broken hearts
"For crying out loud" she screamed unto me
A free for all,Screw 'em all
You are your own sight
I want to be the minority,I don't need your authority
Down with the moral majority,I want to be the minority
RTW economy management is fairly easy, I think. You no longer have to place ships and maintain control of every sea "sector". Just make sure you aren't blockaded. Try to take cities with access to the sea and then make trade agreements with the factions across the body of water. Keep taxes as high as possible without going under 75%. The only exception to this is if you are trying to grow a city's population and don't really care about the small income that the city can make. Then, make it lower. This is especially true for the northern towns near Germania and Scythia, as they will often go into negative population growth if you set taxes too high, even though farms are upgraded and the town is small (low squalor).
If your playing as Julli then you wont get much sea and the gauls are very rebelious

In Rome, trade is king. Get your trade up, especially sea trade, and capture rhodes asap, as well as the greek and macedonian peninsulas. That'll fix things.
I once had 99k in the bank, but my army got so big it ate it up in 5!!!! turns, until i was negative and sending suicide assaults to get rid of men ;)
Reminds me of a time in mtw when i got a rebellion in my favor and had to disband 21 units of peasents...
