    Cool High/Late AI armies structure

    Hi,

usually I prefer playing the Early era, where I'v not encountered this problem. But now, after dissatisfaction with RTW, I returned to MTW and installed great, great XL mod.
Playing as Romans (Byzantines) I'v just been honored by visit of French and Papist armies, but what is strange, their main part are crossbowmens, arbalesters (horrible word :) and handgunners, i.e. missile units, some with paveses. This way battles are getting boring, they just fall into hunting down running enemy missilers (?) and usually killing them, if I don't want them to be back in the next turn, knights and foot units are not problem, they usually fall in battle (i.e. not being captured).
Anyway, is this normal? Or it is caused by the mod? I think this may be corrected by changing the priority ratings in the unit stats, but this is quite annoying work.

    Thanks, Alexandr

Yeah RTW isnt what it was cracked up to be, i dont think it has anything to do with the mod ive been playing MTW VI for about 1 year and the AI even after i installed the XL mod *though it has gotten better since* trains armies of predominantly missile troops.

Spain does this alot, lots of spanish javelin men and jinetes and arbs, it is very irritating because i sit there for an hour sending my feudal knights or whatever on sorties to chase down arbs and crossbowmen all over the map then they get tired so i have to use infantry to chase the rest down.

XL has i think made it abit better, but you cant tell the AI what to train otherwise that'd be even more predictable for the player so just have to hold out for those quite rare but very exciting battles that come along everynow and then.

When does it happen when playing? Is it when the AI only can build archers (no other building) or does AI build them even when they have the option to building other units? I have not seen it when I use the -IAN code to change faction and run the game on autopilot.

MTW XL version 3.0 out now! Get it here:

It happens to the advanced nations which are able to train pretty advanced units, knights, sergeants, men-at-arms, i.e. French, Pope. When the AI has limited sellection, he usually builds better armies. At least pesants are blocked, no more buthing poor farmers, phew! :)
