I think the game just picks a year at random for custom battles, I fought one between Greeks (Spartan hoplies actually) and Parthians, which likewise took place after 500 AD...

stupid.....couldn't CA have at least restricted the random dates from 270BC to 14AD?

What would have been really stupid is if CA made a game where we could alter history to what could have happened.

Uhhh I guess you don't know this but the formal name for the Byzantine Empire was Eastern Roman Empire, or even Roman Empire. And Im 400% sure they own lybia at the time. So in other words, yes there were Romans at the time.
