What I would like to see... that if a captain leads an army, or keeps his city in control for a certain amount of time is commissioned (did I spell that right) a general ship.

There is the "Man of the Hour" where you can adopt a captain into your family. Thus he becomes a general.

Ive only had that happen to me twice. Right now Im playing a Roman Campaign and I have had the same captain leading an army in 4 seperate battles and he took a town that I needed... and nothing. Would have been nice

hmmm...if u are playin e roman....they shld not br any problem as they tend to adopt married off their daughters to abled captains very often....
One way is to send a captain to war to attain at best a heroic victory and he will definately be the "man of the hour" where u can adopt him...
Heres the trick which i used last night....works quite well for me as i'm playing germania now and they seems to have lotsa daughters than sons!!! Send a few units(4-5) to face-off with a rebel or enemy units(in larger nos.) and attain at least a clear victory.....that i promise, will work...cheerz!!!!

well, i'm playing selucia just now and i've had two captains adopted into my family in the last 5 years - however, I think it may be because i only have 5 or 6 active family members left - and now the poor unfortunate new brothers have met an untimely end in my endless battles with Pontus. I must say, i've been much more careless with my Selucid family than my Roman one in my last game. Probably because my troops are far less reliable, so my generals have to get their hands dirty more often and get jumped by desert cavalry or pontic heavies.
