    Default The Sopranos: Any fans?

I am a huge fan of the sopranos, got all the series on dvd and enjoying watching them greatly. The last series was great with frank vincent and steve buscemi on top form. All the acting is great and gadolfini(sp) is fantastic. My fave series is either 3 or4 because of the introduction of Ralph played by the great joe Pantaliono who steals the show whenever he appears.

I think it is the greatest show since the X files. Do we have any other fans on the org?

I've seen maybe two whole episodes. One of them was where the guy's shrink got raped in the stairwell. That was very realistic and very, very ugly.

Then I asked someone who watches the show regularly if they ever got the guy who did it. She told me the shrink knows who the guy is but didn't tell the mob guy, she was scared of what he would do, so there will be no scene of brutal revenge.

Never had any interest in watching it after I heard that.

(Mind you, me and my sweetie watch the West Wing together every Wednesday. Love that show. ya, ya, I know, we're old. )

i've seen a fair bit of it

some of the acting is truly masterful, most notably that of Gandolfini, Pantaliano and the guy who played Richie (the gangster who got out of jail and tried to take over Tony's turf, he was always mouthing off to Tony)

however, much of the other actors on that show suck at acting, ie: Carmella, Meadow, Anthony Jr., Tony's Mother, Tony's sister, Tony's shrink, Furio --- all those performers suck a lot --- they simply can't act.

as for the show itself, some of the content is incredibly boring. ie: any scene with the gangstes' wives gathering around and discussing how they are all losers who let their husbands cheat on them. any scene about Meadow or Anthony Jr. any scene with Tony at the shrink. any scene that has Tony's sister in it. any scene that has Tony's mother in it.

Sopranos has a few good moments but for the most part it's a snoorefest that does not even focus on the mob side of the show IMO

as well, it's not the least bit realistic. at least the major mob movies made an effort to be realistic but Sopranos never even tried

futhermore a lot of times they promote disgusting things like drug use and adultery just for the sake of making the show "cool", not because there was any legit reason to put those things on screen

Saw it today; couldn't stand watching to the end. It seems I wouldn't qualify even as the last person to be a fan. ~:P

Gimme the Godfather triology and I would watch them over and over again in months' intervals.

The Sopranos are more like The Goodfellas and has nothing in common with the Godfather. In fact a lot of the background and main actor's from The Goodfellas are in the Sopranos.

I awtch it when I can but sometimes i'de rather watch Sex and the City. Some episodes are better then other.

The only time the drug are mentioned was with christophers drug problems and they didn't take up too much show time, for me anyway. The adultery isn't trying to make the show cool, its showing a guy cheat on his wife like many other programs do.

But i do agree with you about richie, he was class, especially in the first episode you see him in, shame he was killed by tony's sister of all people! and also some of the family scenes which do see me reach for the remote control to forward it to some much needed violence

I really love the show and i would say your right in it being the best show since the X files. Seems we have similar taste

However i would concur with a previous statement from someone else saying that some episodes can get rather boring and off track. One example of this was in the last series, with Tony dreaming his way through a whole episode. Now that was freakin weird.

Otherwise its bloody brilliant, and i would advise any1 to that hasnt seen it to take a look, especially if you like the gangster genre. Ill certainly be buying the DVD set in the January sales. I think i saw series 1,2,3 for 15 pounds in HMV, so it should be even cheaper by January.

I got Series 1-4 recently from Amazon, £26 each. I'll have to pay full price for 5 mind, but I hear that isn't out until next Autumn.

I saw that dream episode - pretty weird, but it was nice to see some faces from the past.

actually i've seen them a lot more often than that, ie: Furio, Chris, and Adrianna were all doing crack at the funeral of Tony's mother

then later on it shows Chris sit on a dog and kill it due to his drug problems - that's just sick!

of course the adultery makes the show "cool". Tony bangs every woman in the Universe, aside from his wife. i can think of at least 6 distinct women (not his wife) off the top of my head who Tony has banged on the show, and show actually depicts the whole sex scene! now keep in mind i'm just a casual viewer and have only seen episodes from the first few seasons. i am sure that the "official score card" for how many times Tony has committed adultery on-screen is probably in the range of 20 - 30

@the guy who said Sopranos is closer to GoodFellas than Godfather, yes that is true but at least GoodFellas has some class whereas the Sopranos show has none

I'm a dedicated fan. Some years are better than others. I will say I find it very original in some regards, whether I like that originality or not is another matter.

I loved Big Pussy (no need to move this to the Backroom, that really was the guys' name). When he ran from the cops to avoid getting busted and Tony yelled at him for being 'undignified', it was hysterical.

I think it was a shame they killed off Adriana. Drea DeMatteo was so much better in Sopranos then in that ridiculous piece of drivel: "Joey".

I don't think the drugs and the adultery are gratuitious. Watching Christopher turn into a true junkie gave me the heebie jeebies. And Tony's had plenty of pain and suffering from his adultery. That's a big part of why they describe it so vividly. Yes, they want to show some sex, but they also want to show there's some consequences associated with it. I'm surprised they haven't given him VD yet.

Yeah don i thought BP was great man sad to see him getting shot at te end of series two. Also getting rid of ralph man that fight with tony was class but killing the guy over a horse was a bit insane considering the guys kid was on intensive care!

The introduction of Frank vincent with the johnny sac build up in series 5 was great

Love the Sopranos but unfortunately missed most of the first few seasons. From what I've seen the earlier episodes are much better than the recent ones; they're grittier and far more politically incorrect.

I awtch it when I can but sometimes i'de rather watch Sex and the City. Some episodes are better then other.
Sex in the City? Jesus H. Christ I hate that show! I've only seen a few episodes and each time I kept hoping the main characters would contract the Ebola virus or get smeared under the wheels of a runaway tractor trailer. Sex in the City only reminds me how much I dislike the average American woman under the age of 35, especially the NYC variety.

Sex and the City is sooo good. Those women aren't whores, despite popular belief. All the men they've ever met were idiots or just wrong for them, that's all. One of them is married through most of the show.

Also, you live in New York dude. You can't complain about the women there if you live there.
