Have to say I love COOKED onions but detest raw ones with a passion - all I can taste whenever raw onions are in, on or near my food is - wait for it - RAW ONIONS

I have to say that I also do not understand the obsession with limp salad on every single item of food you buy in the UK. Will someone PLEASE start making tasty sandwiches without putting those after-though little pieces of pointlessness in as well

Guess I can always live in hope

I can't stand onions either. I can't stand most vegetables, nevermind. The only vegetables I can tolerate are tomatoes (do they count as a fruit? ), lettuce, raw carrots (never cooked), and radishes...mmmm...radishes... Potatoes are good as well...forgot potatoes

The onionmania is indeed of epic proportions. It may have to do with the feminine curves that the onion posesses, it starts rather small at the top and trancends in a nice bell shape. In the end we all want to eat our females, but that is only what I have read in Freud's 'the significance of onions and our rejected homosexuality' where he links oedipoes with 'cock' au vin and it's sexual relevance towards shetland pony's from greece.

Onions are one of those rare foods that offer intense flavor in two directions: sweet and spicy. Not to mention, their flavor, when muted down by cooking tends to enhance most meat flavors (chicken, beef, lamb etc). I hated onions when I was younger, so I can sympathize, but they've grown on me and now they're one of my favorite foods.

By the way, I'm not trying to preach, you really should try to acquire at least a tolerance for them. There's something in them, and their cousin garlic, that's supposed to be great for your heart.

Indeed - onions (or even better shalots) are great for making sauces. Also baked onions make a fantastic companion for grilled meat.

Did I mention onion tart or "tarte flambee"? *drools*

I would not want to miss red onions in Greek salad either...

Onions are also good for ones stomach.

Can't imagine cooking without onions, or garlic. Was raised on them, but do recall an adversion to them early on - didn't last long tho. Aside from peas (can take them in a stew, but not as a side order) and brustlesprouts, I'll eat about anything. Fried asparagus (with onions as an option) - now there's a treat.

lmao, I think everyone else missed that masterpiece...

Onions are in everything. They are like ogres; unavoidable. *stares suspiciously out of window*

Me, I hate onions, garlic and tomatoes.

That's incredibly limiting when it comes to food.
We are all aware that the senses can be deceived, the eyes fooled. But how can we be sure our senses are not being deceived at any particular time, or even all the time? Might I just be a brain in a tank somewhere, tricked all my life into believing in the events of this world by some insane computer? And does my life gain or lose meaning based on my reaction to such solipsism?

I have to admit I was slowly coerced into my dependence on cooked onions (and other things I didn't really like, such as garlic and tomatoes) by my hertitage: I am half Italian.

Could you imagine someone in an Italian family not liking onions, garlic and tomatoes ?? Truly that is akin to blasphemy

So here, completely unbidden, are my rules:

1). If it ain't Italian, don't eat it.
2). If you wouldn't drink it, don't cook with it.
3). If you can't put it on pasta, don't cook it.
4). If you disagree with me, don't bother

Aaaahh, food, ain't it great ??

    Onions good! Mmmmm.

But not in everything of course. Also onions aren't best choice, if *cough* interaction is to follow the meal. Partially solved if both sides eat onions, and garlic . Ergo: onions good!
