    Default Ancient World War

This is crazy and has to be the first actual real world war...
Im playing as the carthaginians and its pretty much me against the world. I started off at war with the romans, so there are 4 factions against me right away. Then no one will ally with me for some reason... shortly after numidia and greece start to attack me. Then spain, then egypt, then gaul. Then for no reason whatsoever a Macedonian fleet sails over and blockades a port, thus starting a war, and then sailing away.
So thats me, Carthage, against 10 seperate factions...
It's been fun guys, elephants have helped even the odds

I haven't been able to cause a world war yet. Although i did manage on MTw, ehehe. Poor little hungary, they got stuck in the middle of the worlds greatest superpowers having a nice big war.

Well, when you're playing Carthaginians, It's almost impossible to maintain peace with the Romans. Julli armies attack Caralis at Sardinia and Scipii attack your part of Sicily.
Other important things are indeed the betrayal of your allies or the difficulty of your game. In an easy game, foolish nations are less like to become allies.

ofcourse i can't blame the whole world for being against you because eventually you'll attack them ...right?

As Carthage find somebody to be buddy buddy with then unleash hell. I allied with the Greeks and chased the Scipii off the island with there help. Now the Greeks and I are at war with 10 different factions. It's either his navy or mine that increases the love.

After some years take the southern Gaulic cites. Yes I said cities because they will be at peace with those lovely Julii Romans. Then use those to walk all over Rome.

That's why the alliance/diplomacy system doesn't work. You don't have to attack everyone. All you need is 50 provinces. People try to make excuses (not your B-Aaargh) for the system as is, because their logic is, "well, you will eventually attack them/your ally, so they simply attack you first." This is not the case because you dont' have to attack them at all.The Alliance system simply blows as is. The only reason an ally should turn on your is if,

1). After doing well for sometime, you suffer two or three major set backs in a row -2 or 3 year time table. Your ally could take this as a sign of weakness, therefore looking for other allies.

This, of course, is well nigh impossible, since the AI cannot really challenge you.

2). Your ally requests help from time to time, but you never reply with aid.

Which I've never encountered with the present AI.

3). You block him in so he cannot expand.

Can happen. But that would be up to you and not the AI.

4). Their ruler has some kind of crazy Vice/Virture, which makes him turn on you.

    Who knows.

5). A rival of yours (or even a neutral party) is conquering provinces left and right near your ally while you are busy.

Hard to say if this is possible.

The fact is the AI just isn't up to the challenge.

Yes , well I wasn't saying that the AI attacks you because, if not, you would attack them.
I meant that, when a neighboring faction attacks me, I don't quite care because I know that when I've got enough recourses and their borders are weak, I will attack them.
Usually I'm not playing the campaign just to get Rome and 50 provinces, so I'm not planning who my enemies will be in advance

*just get around and conquer, no matter who's in your way*

Maybe that's just the way Carthage is

In my campaign, I was at war with the world (except my ally Greece) for pretty much the entire campaign. The only reason that Greece remained a staunch ally was I never saw them after they were booted from Sicily.

    Well thats the thing
    I couldn't get an ally
NO ONE would ally me, and I had my diplomats all around the map.
I didnt even attack anyone besides Rome, after they attacked me.
and I wasnt weaker then these other guys until I had to fight off 9 factions' armies.

The AI likes to hit and run. When you start as Scipii and chuck all your forces at the Greek city over on Scily, if you leave only one unit to guard Messana, the Carthaginian elephant stack will come in along the coast into your lands. When it happened it didnt have enough MP to move all the way. So i moved a few Hastatii, nothing much, back into messana to deter the com from finishing his raid. That sorted them out. I assume an ally might do this as well. After all, it only takes a single act of aggession to start a war.
