    Default Tuetonic Knights

    Hey all,

I havent posted here often but I need some help. I looked through a lot of the posted guides but I cant seem to find a thread on the clear path to Tuetonic Knights.

I control Prussia (as Poland) and want to know what specific advancements I need to build them. I am at or around 1200 and am pretty sure these units are time specific, still I want to make sure I have all my improvements completed in time.

Any help, or redirection to a thread that can help would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi,

Sorry, only the Germans can get Teutonic Knights and Teutonic Sgts, and only from crusades.

    HTH,

    P.

EDIT: BTW, there is a file called the "MTW Info Pack" available from the download section, it's a nice way to keep track of all this stuff. Best,

Only Germans can build Teutonic Knights and Sergeants.

Poland can't even build crusades btw (neither can Danes or Hungarians, which is silly as the Danes did some crusading in the Baltic.)

Thanks for the prompt replies guys.

I think this is a little bogus personally... Why should it matter who owns the province that the Knights hail from? They either come from Prussia or they dont right?

Without going into indepth historical analysis it just seems reasonable to me that a catholic faction, that controls a province should be able to build the units exclusive to that province.

It wasnt like "germany" exsisted persay, it was all HRE which was comprised of many different groups, including Prussians.

    Thanks Anyway,

Yes well nations did not really excist before nationalism hit Europe in the 19th century.
All factions back then weren't like one, single nation. In Medieval times many regions had only limited loyalty to their crowned kings.

For example, Bretagne remained fairly autonomous untill like the 16th century. Bourgondy was a seperate country altogether. Yet everyone considers them a part of France.

I think though CA made the factions more like a nation we know today for gameplay reasons.
Wouldn't be much fun being a King and all you did was binding regional aristocrats to your family through marriages and political backstabbing.

As for crusader units, they're unrealistic to begin with I guess. All the Orders featured were quite sovereign and owed fielty to the Pope rather then a worldly power.
This is not to say they weren't involved in politics. For example the Teutonic knights were obviously more in favour with the HRE emperor and vice versa (more then other European factions).
I guess to offset this CA made crusader units untrainable.

About Teutonic Knights. They were predominately Germans, and the vast majority came from modern-day Germany. Foreign nobles were allowed to join, like King Henry IV I believe, who served in the Order for some time, but it was a German Order.
Prussia in the 13th century was inhabited by the Prusiskai tribe, who were pagans. They were defeated and then subjugated by the Order, and numerous German settlers were then sent to the Order's lands to settle and christianize it. Most of the 14th century Prussians served the Order as levy troops.

Well this makes it historical. Cant really gripe with the game acurately portraying history....

Still would be nice to be able to get the ability to produce region specific units if your the same faith.

Ah well, Poland has its other challenges, the Horde should be showing up soon enough.
