Default The Insane anti swearing campaign.

Last time I looked the Totalwar serious was for Mature Audiences 15 years and over, I don't know what it is in America or Britain but due to the games content I wouldn't be suprised if it was similiar.

Now, this forum is for the totalwar games isn't it? So, why then are we forbidden to swear, even with key letters cencored out for a game that allows you to commit GENOCIDE AND MASS SLAUGHTER.

I'm sorry, this just doesn't ring true for me.

My RTW copy says 12+, we do get people young people on the forums had a 10 year old once.

saying that i wouldn't mind being able to swear, just not at people...

    Fair enough,

But I got a warning level for making a joke and using the f word with the u cencored out. (My other one is for mentioning Id*ho's name in a post.)

Perhaps there is a way to get some of these rules changed or modafied to take into consideration the ages of the forum members?

If were all mature adults, we don't need to swear. We should be able to communicate ourselves without the use of swear words if were mature shouldn't we? Personally I don't see the need for it or the use for it, and even more so since it is against the rules of the Guild. I don't even swear all that much while talking to people. The only times I can think of is when I make a huge mistake, or playing soccer.

We do not need to swear and it is not like they ban you for cursing a few times, now is it?

No, 5 is the magic number.

@Cold Knight, you don't swear, good for you. Its not like being able to swear will make you swear so I don't understand your problem with what I am asking.

I don't have a problem. As being in highschool, its an everyday occurance for me, so I have no problem at all with swearing. I believe that the rules of the org were made to stop people from having post full of swearing, that would just downgrade the quality of the board, instead of swearing being a way to express extreme emotion (like they should be used). But over all Efrem I have no problem with your request, I was just merely asking why it was so nessesary.

No one is stopping you from swearing, you just shouldn't post it.

You are supposed to use this forum to communicate with other people on a variety of subjects. Adolescent Behaviour such as I have seen on other forums will often reach such a level that people that I want to learn from will avoid showing up here. I have friends on other forums that largely avoid certain areas of their forums due to exactly this problem.

We are not little children that we cannot find some other way to state what we want to say.
"War is an ugly thing, but not the ugliest of things. The decayed and degraded state of moral and patriotic feeling which thinks that nothing is worth war is much worse. The person who has nothing for which he is willing to fight, nothing which is more important than his own personal safety, is a miserable creature and has no chance of being free unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself."

The lowest rating for any of my TW games is 11; that is on MTW.

The age of the members is not the sole issue at play here; a good proportion of patrons have young children. Understandably many of those members do not want their children reading over daddy's shoulder and asking, "What does mean?"

well, as stated before, I go to a senior school...look at my profile to see my age. and swearing is an everyday occurance.

I agree absolutely here. I can express my my extreme dislike of many right wing policies and ideals without swearing...hell even Demonarchangel doesn't need to swear all the time to get his point through...even PJ or Capo don't. If these 'offensive' patrons don't then you most certainantly don't need to.
ps: I say that DA, PJ and Capo are offensive because they say some very controversial things and I have been offended (quite mildly mind) by all 3

Keep the rules about swearing exactly the way they are, in my opinion. Swearing means one thing only - an inablity to communicate effectively.

lol, what does that say about an army then?
"I request permanent reassignment to the Gallic frontier. Nay, I demand reassignment. Perhaps it is improper to say so, but I refuse to fight against the Greeks or Macedonians any more. Give my command to another, for I cannot, I will not, lead an army into battle against a civilized nation so long as the Gauls survive. Sorry to sound snobbish, but I dislike reading through a thread that is mostly swear words strung together. The moderators are not power crazed dictators looking to punish people for the occasional slip, although they might edit the post to cut out the offending word - a full time job in the Tavern.

The best commanders I ever had - rarely swore - and when they did you knew that you went to far with them.

Now NCO's on the other hand - its part of the nature of the beast that is the army. But its not effective communication - its effective forcing individuals to do what you want them to do.

    You're ### d### right about that.
As an NCO and having to direct people to do things that some bone headed officer wants to do for their his/her own benifit. That's when I as an NCO needs to first tell my troops to do it, then if they don't or bitch about it, then I tell them a little more harshly.
But i do agree, I believe that the more foul language you use, the less intellect you have. That's why I'm a dumbass and everyone can p### off!!!!

Odd. I don't remember such threads existing before the ban. Could you please give me an example?

Come on guys, there's no need to swear. If you get angry there's a multitude of non curse words you can use to convey that hatred along with these guys:

    -Abraham Lincoln

Four stage strategy from Yes, Minister:
Stage one we say nothing is going to happen.
Stage two, we say something may be about to happen, but we should do nothing about it.
Stage three, we say that maybe we should do something about it, but there's nothing we can do.
Stage four, we say maybe there was something we could have done, but it's too late now.

I think the swearing rules are fine as they are. In fact, the Org is pretty relaxed compared to one of the boards I'm a reg of, where even 'damn' is censored, and it's done automatically, so Arsenal Football Club and Moby Dick become ****nal Football Club and Moby ****.

Of course it isn't if you were here just to offend people, you'd have to be quite sad indeed. Since I trust you're normal, I am probably just being thin skinned most of the time.

I have to admit i find it hard not to swear on the org just because its my way of speaking in general. I'm fine with swearing as long as no one deliberately calls someone something offensive or derrogatory such as:

BKB you are an F****n C**t, apart from something like this i'm peachy
