The Egyptians, definitly, great bowman and axeman
who wear invisible armour (always puzzled me that one)
Seriously though I found Pharaoh's Guards disapointing and not convinced about the value of non ranged chariots but the rest of them are great

I would say the Julii , as I like infantry and Romans specialise in (heavy ) infantry it's an easy choise. however I'm not really impressed with their cavalry ( preatorian are great but take 2 turns, and i don't like to wait )
so I use Roman cavalry, which don't stand a chance against chariots.
their archers are not bad at al ( auxillia archers ) and they are just very good alround.
also I like to do the senat missions ( they offer nice rewards ) , and later on destroy those old men of the senat.
Romans definatly have the best units later in the game, hell it's called Rome total war.

The Greeks. Very good infantry, medium archers and cavalry and of course their cities.

no macedonians r betta than greeks betta infantry and powerful cavalry with them u can just take the greek cities.

The problem I found with the Greeks and Macedons was I couldn't find anyone capable of holding or assualting walls phalanxes are great in normal battles and street fighting but I kept getting my ass kicked by desert axeman in sieges (any tips)

i find that hireing mercs is the best way to get round that prob and wit the income of greek cities at ur disposal u can spend alot.

i have four favourite factions:

-the scythians, simply because i love horse archers

-armenia, they get cataphract archers wich are practically unbeatable

-pontus, quite difficult to get started with, but they get scythed chariots, good phalanx infantry (bronze shields) and cappadocian cavalry, wich has the same stats as cataphracts.

-carthage, i love the elephants+heavy cav. rush plus everyone hates you so you are constantly in war.

cataphract ele's ofc. but otherwis the cataphract horse archer for horse archering and the cataphract or scythian nobles for close combat.

I Like Desert Cavalry they seem to trash any cavalry sent against them, they have wicked axes and they come in big units also they seem to be faster than other cavalry and one of the few units (with nubian cavalry) I can use to kill fleeing enemy cavalry esp. generals

wat bout infantry? i like the phalanxes bt jus not that manouverable for that nothing beats the petorian cohort.

The Seleucids. Their strategic position is bad, which makes for a very challenging game. As for their unit choice, they have an excellent variety: good infantry (various phalanxes and eventually Silver Shield Legionaries, which are copies of the Roman Legionary Cohorts for those of you who don't know), scythed chariots, elephants, and heavy horse cavalry (cataphracts AND Companion Cavalry). Plus, they're RICH. Just make sure you punch out the Egyptians quickly, lest they overwhelm you with wave upon wave of inexplicably indestructible, bare-chested Desert Axemen. And NEVER autocalclulate a battle against the Egyptians, no matter what the balance of forces.

They have a prestigious past, they have good voices, they have the incredible Spartan hoplites, they are in the very center of the map, they are in the richest land, and more than anything, the most decisive factor : their hoplites look just awesomely friggin' COOL !

Seleucids -by far the best greek faction and one of the more challenging camps
Parthia -challenge nearly as high as the Seleucids plus their horse archer way of war fare is interesting.
Julii -Mostly cause their colour is red, that and the sammite gladiators look cool
Britons -love those head hurlers and chariots

Julii cuz I love the Romans and they get to fight all the barbarians. The brutii next for taking greece really early and being a rich roman, plus fighting greece, selucids and egypt. Then egypt for units and coolness, last is Armenia because HA's are really cool now and Cataphract archers own.

I wiil go for Julii its because they can expand very quickly. I expand to west, east and north as quick as possible. i managed to capture the whole of greeks at 258 bc. except for appolonia which is the only 1 own by the brutii. For army i usually bribe those brutii. if u do it fast u will face less enemy. since the A.I doesnt train a lot of soldier due to the lack of money

Germania is my favorite faction.
Favorite cavalry unit:Scythian Nobles. They have oficially the best charge in the game. Check out this link to see if I am right.
Faveorite infantry unit: Berserkers.

Romans and Greeks. Romans obviously for the post Marian units. The Greeks for the phalanx infantry who aren't wearing giant dildo helmets on their heads.

The greek cities!!! They are the best!! They fill their swimming pools with money, and their mighty armies have allowed me to unite the hellenic peoples under one banner, and allow eastern europe and russia to fall under the greek boot.

Seleucids. Great mix of troops and plenty of financial growth right from the start. Oh yeah, and everybody east of Rome will be at war with you by turn 10. Never boring that.

carthage are rubbish at the start but have great soldiers and horsemen later on at the game

The Seleucids. Mainly because you get the opportunity to pound Egypt into oblivion early on, removing that little embarrassment from an otherwise great game. Oh, and you get elephants and the phalanx (what more can a general ask for?).

Germania. The spear warband ist just awesome, and berserkers, elite axemen and night raiders are ideal to chew pinned enemies up.
Of course, a cav charge finnishes a pinned unit off much faster, but killing them one by one with inf is more satisfying to me.
Also they have decent cav and very good archers to top their armies off, but if they had only their infantery, they would still be my favourite civ.
