Thread: Swapping factions

    Default Swapping factions

New to modding, so nothing technical please...

I just wondered if there was an easy way to just swap faction start points - ie, have the Seleucids start where the Britains are and vice versa, without changing anything else.

I'm guessing somewhere there'll be a file with a list of starting cities, but I'm worried that you'd need to change it all over the place...

You would need to change settlement ownership and the starting locations of all the generals/diplomats/spies for each faction involved in the descr_strat.txt file.

To change the settlement ownership, just cut and paste the settlement information from the original faction to the new faction. You might want to change the "faction_creator" line as well, and you might want to change the "default culture" for the region in the descr_regions.txt file.

The starting locations of the generals/diplomats/spies are also in the descr_start.txt file; they appear as x ##, y ## at the end of the line describing each character.

I don't know if this would work, but in the descr_strat.txt file, you could look at the line which says

    faction romans_julii, balanced smith

and change that. This would give them exactly the same units and characters and family tree. It might cause the game to crash, but it might also work.

If you took this approach, you would also have to change the faction ownership in the export_descr_unit.txt file for all the units involved. Otherwise the game would crash.

EDIT: And you'd have to change the export_descr_buildings.txt file to allow the correct factions to recruit the correct units.
