    Default Has anyone ever seen...?

Has anyone ever seen a non-player controlled non-Roman faction take and hold a city on the Italian peninsula? I have never played a campaign past 200 turns since it invariably becomes redundant at that point and I am convinced that the way the factions are balanced it is currently impossible for a non-player faction to invade Rome. As it stands, the three roman factions march over everything in their path except Egypt, and that is simply because 200 turns in the Romans haven't usually traveled that far and all of the other edge of the map factions have been eliminated by their neighbors. IMHO the Romans are unbeatable. I am simply seeking confirmation from other people's experiences.

im playin the total realism 4 mod & the same thing happens,
ie, carthage has taken spain most of gaul, sicilly, all of north africa up to libya
theyve forced scipii into macadon, brutii have got a provence in themiskyra (wtf!!). juili has most of germania, & yet theyve just kind of stoped
i havent steped foot out of briton yet perhaps that is effecting things, but no, much to my dissapointment i have never seen another faction land on italy proper

nice observation, i have never seen it either.

you'd think the prime candidate for that would be gaul, since they start out big compared to the juliii. but since tthe computer knows, that the human is not playing a roman faction, the julii and the gauls never go head to head in an all out slugfest.

I´ve never seen it, I guess it´s a thing of auto-calc, while elephants and Phalanxes are crap in auto-calc, roman troops seem to be really good there because of their stats.
But I wonder how the Brutii for example can have only their two Italian cities and still build one or two full stacks to send them against the Macedons.

The Romans have good early units, good economic provinces, good generals and they watch each other's backs.

Also, I don't think the game was supposed to be balanced.

It's set up to deliver a final confrontation with Rome.

The same applies to the Scipii and Julii. If you look at the banking scroll you'll understand quickly how they can: they're rolling on gold.

As for that thread, no I haven't see any non Roman factions invading the peninsula. Even the Gauls seem satisfied with the tow cities they hold...
I don't think the Romans are too aggressive, on the contrary, the other factions seem pretty shy towards them to me: when they have the choice, AI controlled factions attack you rather than the Romans even though they are much more threatening.

Wich makes the game too easy, Take on Rome from the North. The Gauls there have been in peace and will have some nice cities saved up for you. As Carthage I was having trouble with the Romans. Then Gaul comes and plays dirty with Corduba. I took Numantia and the population there was pretty depleted. After that all Gaulish towns had a minumum of 4000 people. Talk about an easy march on Rome when you can get fresh troops right at there front door.

This is the way it should be, the game tries to deliver more realism with such coded behavior. If you play a non Roman faction the game makes you challenge strong Romans as it was in real life. Would you rather have it that every second game the Romans would be wiped off the map in the first ten years?

Actually Gaul can take parts of the Italian penisula. When i was Julii they attacked many of my cities from the beggining.

oh ive tried to remedy this as germany i captured every city bordering the romans filled them with warband (so the gauls can use them) and gave all thosn cities to the guals. full stacked with warband the guals and julii were at a standstill both with full stacks in settlements that bit sucks i want to see someone sack rome at least once!

Of course, my Greek City armies trounce the romans. Here's what you do. Try to get archers early and get as many Cretan archers. Wait for romans to attack your city then as soon as they do, attack the besiegers, and place archers on the walls. They then run up to the city and get wiped out. This was so succesful that Brutii wiped themselves out completely. I then took most of Macedon, and the island of Sicily. I launched my attack from there and took the roman peninsula. I am playing on V hard/vhard/huge.
If the patch changes the AI so they dont rush the city, that would improve things a great deal, otherwise the game is too easy.

Nope I didn’t see any non-player controlled non-Roman faction take and hold a city on the Italian peninsula but I do see Carthage landing a full stack on the peninsula once but was push back into their ships the very next turn by a combine of senate and Scipii army.

And that was the only time I saw any non-Roman faction setting foot on the peninsula expect the Guals.

Well in my Brutii long campaign, the Gauls veritably kicked the Julii's collective arses - they took two of the Julii's cities near the start of the game - i had to go up and take them back FOR them. And then they had the cheek to keep them (damn allies!).
