Resolution Problems

I just got Rome Total War last night and installed it. When I started up the game I noticed the resolution wasn't right and it didn't fit on my screen right. so I went into the options screen and set the resolution from 1024x768 to 1280x1024.

1280x1024 is what I play all my games on but in RTW it still didn't work for my monitor. My desktop resolution is set for 1280x1024 so I don't know why it wouldn't work right.

I cycled through all of the resolution all the way to 800x600 and the game still doesent fit proportionally on my screen. Half of the game is on my screen while the other half is black. It really sucks.

I have a new monitor a 20 in. NEC. It should work but it doesent. Does anyone else have this problem and if so how did you fix it?

Actually the game dosent even support 1280x1024, thats my biggest problem. Is there anything I can do?
