    Angry Confused

    Hi All,
I used to play STW alot.and have just rebought it.
I`m a bit confused as to what patch I am to load on.
I have put the Warlord Edition on ,as that is the one I bought,so that makes the mongol invasion 1.02,but my STW ,is still 1.00,is there a patch for this as well ??.
I`m also running XP ,and find I do get some flickering on the red background of the game when in menu,is there a way to fix this also ??.
Its no big deal as it does not happen when playing battles, but dont alf give you an eadache after a while

Just recently I`ve gone mad ,and bought all the TW games,so I`m looking forward to Medieval, and Rome to come through the post. .

Warlord edition contains the last patch for shogn original. You should download the warlord edition patch 1.02 from totalwar.com. Don't know anyway to avoid flickering screen.

Boy, seems you do need help...

Seriously, I've never heard of the menu flicker. The flickering of battlefield backgrounds, yes. Campaign screen, ditto. But not the menu and nothing but the menu.

Mods might consider moving this post to Tech Library.

    Good luck, Shifty!

I got flicker in menu too. I have heard about others with same problem but havent heard about any way to fix except by alt tab out and in as that normally will fix it for a few minutes before it comes back again.

I would, but the flickering screen has been around for ages and no one has figured out how to fix it. I find alt-tabbing out, making sure all windows are minimized, and then alt-tabbing back in works to remove it some times (repeat if necassary) but know no way to prevent it from happening in the first place.

For the screen flicker, try this:

Set your refresh rates manually in XP for various resolutions, 640x480 at 256 color, 16 and 32 bit, 800x600 at 256, 16 &32, 1024x768 at 256, 16 & 32. Set each one, and accept (nine in all.) Don't set it to 200 Hz refresh, set it to something comfortable well within range of your monitor but that is relatively flicker free. 85 Hz should be fine for the lower resolutions even with a very old monitor, try to get 75 Hz at least if allowed.

Windows is terrible at picking refresh rates and often tries to pull in one that is too high or low. Sometimes it tries to pick an allowed default that doesn't work properly with your monitor (might be a vid card driver or monitor .inf fault.) Anyway, the result is sometimes flicker or screen overlap at the top. When it flickers, if your monitor has OSD (on screen display) you might be able to press the appropriate monitor button and see what resolution and refresh rate it is using for that program. Often it will be something oddball, like 50 or 60 Hz refresh.

I get the red flicker/strobe on the menu also. I just pick my factions nd move on.

Seems like it started after I patched STW WE.

had the menu flicker sometimes too, and the computer makes noise like hell when in the menu, but it didn't matter, just went on to my savedgame. I've never had any problems in the battles.
