Question Newb with two basic questions

    Hi there,

an old Medieval-Player aquired his copy of RTW some days ago.

I`m absolutely astonished so far, although I had only a few hours to play it.

There are two minor problems I encounterd so far. I haven't found a proper threat or answer for it searching this forum.
    So, here you go:

First, I can't safe in the Prologue. The Save-Option is grayed out. Quicksave doesn't work. Is this a bug or intenional ? (I'm using Version 1.1)
I hope this can be resolved, 'cause I wanted to finish the prologue. But it takes some time and I have only a few hours a week to play (real life, you know ).

For the second one. Is there a way to play it in 1280x1024 ??? Since I'm using a TFT, imagequality in 1024x768 is impaired. I know that this is not possible in the Options-Menu. But maybe there is a setting in some ini-file ???

    Ave,
    Blacknek

You can't save in the prologue until you get some distance into it--takes a bit longer than you might suppose.

I'm not sure why CA doesn't let you set the resolution to 1280x1024 in the video options. There are some stuck in the mud developers that neglect that resolution--Oleg Maddox is a jerk about it for one... However, you can manually go into the preferences.txt file and set the resolution to 1280x1024. I did this a few minutes ago as a check and it seemed to take. Now if you ever go into the video options again you will probably lose your setting (it was showing 800x600x16 in there when I checked.)

    What does this mean?
    UNLIMITED_MEN_ON_BATTLEFIELD:FALSE

If I set it to TRUE what happens?

Usually, the game limits the amount of men based on unit size. If you set it to true, this limit no longer applies: You can mod 240 men per unit on small unit size, if you so desire. I do believe there is still a hard limit of 300 men max., but i havent experimented much with this settting.

    2. i can play it at 1280x960, and Anti-aliasing Low. The game detects your video card and does not allow you to go beyond what it (game) thinks it (card) can handle.

Yes, and I normally play at 1280x960x32. But the 1280x1024 option is absent. This suggests to me that it is the game limiting the options (as it did in IL-2 based games.) My current card is allowed to use 1280x960, but for some reason, it is a "restricted resolution" for many other cards. Plus if you have a 1280x1024 native monitor, 960 is not a good solution.

The resolution 1280x1024 has an odd aspect ratio 5:4, not the usual 4:3 (like 1024x768, 1280x960).

It is annoying me too, since I got a 1280x1024 TFT. The most important point is that the game stretches the screen vertically to fit the 4:3 picture to my 5:4 screen.

I made the change to 1280x1024... Nice enough, but the game seems to be slower now, well that was expected. But another oddity is the images of the buildings in the constructions, they are now rather low quality as are some faces. I guess I will change to the 1280x960, for those buildings and images are really messing up the feeling here.

Hi there and thx for your replies !

Well, concerning prologue. What is the meaning, that you can't save before advancing to a certain point anyway ????

Well, maybe I will have the time this weekend to "reach" the cut-off-point to save.

    To the 1280X1024 issue:
The aspect ratio is a problem. As you mentioned, the missing resolution is also true for other UBI-Games. In Il-2 there is however an otion in the ini-file for "save aspect ratio" when manually altering the resolution.

Well, 1024 will do it for the time being. Still a great game
