    Default My crappy computer

guys im running a 1 GHz athalon with 512 mb ram. I don't know anything about the video drivers. The game runs fine except when im in a decent size battle screen when it is a bit slow and lags a little. it is fast enough to still play but it makes it hard to manouver quickly.

Has any one got any ideas? or do you think its just the video drivers?

    Hello again,

I have a pretty old rig to. You should definately go to your vid drivers manufactures site and see if there are downloadable updates, and download them.

There are other things in the game you can do. When you start up you can go to the section called performance (or maybe its settings) its when you select single player. To make battles run smoother, you can put the audio quality to low, and you can turn off smoke and ambient flora.

You might want to have a look at Activisions MTW site (the link is around somewhere) they have lots of trouble shooting Q&A's and thats where I found that.

    Good Luck

    You call that crappy ?

I'm still content with my PIII 733, GeForce 2 MX :D.

    Medieval runs fine on it...

On my computer, MTW runs "just about" using the lowest graphics settings.

    Btw, its a laptop. P4 2.4GHz, 256MB RAM, 64MB DDR VRAM.

RTW runs about the same, (in battle). Go figure!

It's most likely not the video drivers! Upgrading your drivers may in fact make MTW unplayable if you have a GeForce video card, as the latest drivers seems to cause the game to crash a lot.

I have had good results lowering the DirectX memory set aside for textures. On older GeForce drivers this setting was available directly in the Advanced section of the driver setup (a value of 8-16 MB was usually OK). On newer drivers this explicit option has disappeared, but there is a general "Performance and Quality Settings" section. I've improved my performance by changing this setting from "Quality" to "Performance".

I think i remember reading somewhere that lowering the sound quality in the options menu will dramatically increase performance. Not sure though, so don't quote me on it but you could try it.

Yeah, or just turning sound off should do it.

I have a computer similar to your's and I am able to run battles online with over 10,000 men in them wiht high-performance settings, even with the sound upped.

    Quite odd.

tokai and 2faced 's tips did the trick for me - game was very sluggish on my new comp but I blamed it on XP as I have troubles with other games with it. I have a similar system as derF but more RAM and turning the sound off (mute button in sound menue) restored the game to its former glory.

hope it will help you too

    nick

PS: have to check it in RTW - got really frustrated there

    heheh

Well, I'm running a PII 350, 384MB of RAM, with a 16MB Voodoo3 2000 video card, on Win 98SE, and I haven't had any problems at all with MTW.

I have all MTW game settings on medium, and things have worked out well, including having 3,000 troops on the field at one time :)

i did find out i also have a 32 mg video card, which is better than the minimum requirements listed.

Actually i have a question, how do you get 3000 troops in the battle at once??? or are you counting the reinforcements?

i will try the sound settings, that might help.

    I'm counting both sides' troops:

Throw in 60-man units as well as 100-man units, and you can soon have almost 3,000 men on the field at one time (both sides included).

    For example: 12x100-man units plus 4x60-man units = 1440 x 2 = 2880.

This number varies according to the province being attacked. But even with my lowly computer specs I have been able to handle up to 3000 men on the field.

This number is a bit extreme.

Many big battles will usually have between 1600 to 2400 men on the field.

Even on open fields with lots of Golden Horde HA charging my line, I rarely have any slow downs...
