    Question MTW manual

Gday guys. I hope I am posting in the right section. I just bought the game and am loving it. However the version I bought came without a manual and i was wondering if anyone had a copy of it, in pdf or word or something that i could get a hold of?

I have had a couple of problems specifically. Playing as the English, the French are on the northen part of europe seperating my provinces, I don't know how to get my units from one province to another.

I'd appreciate feedback. If someone has a copy could you post a message here and i'll pm you my email addy or something.

    cheers guys, deanox

Hi Deanox - I had an STW w/o manual, but it was on disk instead.... suggest u look around the site here, loads of goodies to be had, patches, guides, downloads etc. Also check out Activision's own site. I can heartily recommend the guides by frogbeastegg, as well, also downloadable as pdf.

You'll kick yourself, but this game is so realistic - you need ships! And you have to occupy each sea region you want to cross. Luckily, as the English you should hold Wessex (unless those Frenchies are beating you up already) which should be well developed towards shipbuilding.

    Good luck with the conquest!

Sorry I don't have links to hand, had browser/bookmark troubles! I started games with the 1st Warcraft, missed civ, and came through to MTV via RoN, Praetorians etc. Haven't touched another game since (except Shogun

That the depends on whether you have the original game only or the expansion (Viking Invasion) as well. If you only have M:TW, you will need the 1.1 patch, if you have VI you need the 2.01 patch (VI already has 1.1 installed). You can find both patches here: TOTALWAR.COM DOWNLOADS PAGE.

To answer your shipping question: you need to have a port in the province your leaving (but not in the destination) and ships in every sea between the two provinces. Then you can just place your army in the province on the other side of the channel. You can launch amphibian invasions this way. The funny thing is that you can send your troops from Sweden to Palestine in just one turn if you've got ships in all the seas lying between. If you did over land it would take dozens of turns.

Be aware though that a single enemy ship in the sea lanes will block invasion. Also, if the destination has no port, your troops will be unable to return home. If you retreat from battle and there is neither a port nor a neighbouring province to retreat to, the troops will be trapped. This is also a hazard of amphibian invasions since if you lose, you can't escape and if you win the port will be most likely destroyed and you still can't escape. This is especially dangerous when your King is trapped away from his homeland: if there is no contact with the king anymore (i.e. the King cannot return home without crossing enemy provinces) it will cause loyalty in those lands to plummet to plummet. Many an Ireland-invader discovered to his shock that he coulnd't return home and his empire revolted because Ireland does not have a port.

Move your units to the french provinces, have them join up there.

The patch comes with a readme that explains the changes, but the two most important are the 56-year bug (made your king die once he reached 56 years of age) and the sideswipe exploit (allowed cavalry to get a charge bonus ad infinitam if the unit leader was still running).
