Forcing my way into Sparta was quite hard, those spartan hoplites are wicked man and also lake trasimene is a little difficult. The easiest for me is telamon.![]()
Yes the battle is carrhae with crassus(sp?) i haven't fought that one yet, i'll have to give it go but unfortunately real life breaks the rome playing cycle![]()
Yes Carrhae is nasty... Consider it after the patch. Impossible!!! And yes his name is Crassus.
Trasimene I didn't find all that hard, though still a really nice battle and quite a challenge. After the patch it might get a lot harder though, so I have to play it again.
Telamon seemed easy enough at first glance but several things ruined it for me (a victory, but one Pyrrhus would recognize), worst of it all was my dogs got involed with te army in front of me (I had intended them to keep the second army busy while I beat up the first). But quite easy.
Asculum has to be he easiest battle, those phalanxes break under the pilafire (I put my legionaries on FAW and watched the carnage).
I only tried Cynoscephalae once, but I got beaten. I'm pretty sure I would win next time so I will say it is a fairly challenging battle.
Teutoberg was too easy. Just keep concentrated and you will walk all over the Germans.
There was one more competitive battle but I can't remember it now.

Carrhae is indeed the hardest in my opinion. However, the one I really have the problem is Antiochus III's battle with Ptolemy IV. Somehow those Egyptian bastards all got it into me. Can anyone tell me how to beat it? (I was so angry I decided to continue my Seleucid campaign and begin mass-extermination of the Egyptian people and armies in revenge. Die you Ptolemy!!!)
Please help me pass that battle. I can't even beat it in easy. The archers and chariots annihilated me completely.
well i didnt have a problem with that battle, i pulled my gen back immediately and sent pretty much all my cavalry to meet him, then just walked up to the eygptians in formation and fixed em in place whilst my cav, fresh from wiping out egyptian cav hit them all across their rear. i cant do telamon, for some reason no matter what i do my army never defeats the force in front of me without taking massive casualties. i agree with everyone else that the hardest battle is indeed carrhae. however i did mangae to do it, used my cav to keep driving off theirs untill they were scattered all over the place concentrated all my infantry power to recieve the katank charge, wiped them out then moved onto high ground and put my men on FAW the parthians ran out of ammo eventually and were exhausted from fleeing from my cav. the parthians ended up trying to take my legions in a charge and were butchered :). took me about 10 attempts to do it though! lol

To beat Raphis you need to flee with Antiochus right away (that unit of Nile Cavalry looks mighty tempting with its back to you, but don't fall for it). Meet him with ONE unit of Companions. Flee him past them and hit hte enemy in the flank. If they turn to engage them send in Antiochus and it should result in singular losses.
March ahead with the infantry, keep them close. They should easily deal with the enemy infantry. Meanwhile try to use the other companions and greek cavalry to take out the archers (companions of Pharaohs and greeks on bowmen). Ignore the chariots for now, you need the cavalry to take out the enemy infantry and archers.
During the advance either screen the cavalry with the infantry until the right moment or charge in right away. No half solutions.
Don't worry about the losses to your silver shields from archery, they can take it (morale).
This way the battle in the center on the right flank should be yours. When you have dealt with all ofthem you can now take out the chariots. You will quite likely suffer a few routing units when attacking them, but it matters not, you should have enough in reserve.

Carrhae is the hardest becuase you are meant to lose.
Historically, Crassus and his legions were massarcred. Nothing could save them.
Crassus was a mediocre general, but even Pompey or Caesar wouldn't have won after marching their army 500 miles into arabia with nothing but sand and rocks.
This battle shouldn't be in the game. Maybe they should have more important battles like Octavius versus Marc Anthony or something or the Caudine Forks.
He was no longer to be addressed as Gaius Octavius Julius but insisted on being called Augustus Caesar and he now styled himself as 'divi filius' - 'son of god'.
I didn't think Carrhae was that hard the only hard thing about it was chasing there horse archers around the map with 3 legions and half a generals cav unit.

Hardly a good reason, then Lake Trasimene should be equally impossible.Originally Posted by Octavius Julius
