I see that RTR is up to its usual standards of quality control. 5.0 is not out for more than a week and there is already a patch for 5.0. Some serious attention should be given to make sure the Mod works properly before just shoving it out for release. Its just shoddy otherwise.

Err...man, this patch is mainly released for 2 reasons :
1- to correct the huge bug with primary/secondary attack, which is CA's fault

2 - To allow players to play without unified Rome, because there was a lot of whining about having only one playable roman faction

Refrain yourself from going on and speaking about things you don't know.
I'm not a fan of RTR, but if there's one thing that got improved since gaius julius disappeared, that's the quality control ^_^

Sweet so the patch fixes the missile stat bug? If so I cant wait to use this, as it is I downloaded RTR 5.0 yesterday and couldnt stop playing all day. Frieken incredible work! Can you choose to be a single roman family in 5.1 instead of forcing people to use many ? I for one like the single roman faction idea.

So far 5.0 saves seem compatible with 5.1

Yes - single family is still the default. An additional un-unified Rome patch is available for those who want the multiple families.

RE: quality control - I've been arguing for slower development on the mod, but we lowly playtesters only have so much say in what goes on. They usually don't give me enough time to get very far in a campaign (much less trying more than one faction deep into a campaign) prior to saying "times up, let's release it." Unfortunately I have to go to work and help care for my children and spend enough time with my wife that she realizes I still exist, so I can't playtest 24 hours a day. Having said that, I think 5.1 is worth a lot more than you have to pay for it.

ok since ive dedicated over 20 hours in the past 3 days alone to my roman campaign and just now have busted out of Italy, I need to ask this final question. If I install 5.1 will my 5.0 save games still work?

The answer - as far as I experienced it - is YES. They do.
