Thread: Scrappy Horse???

Playing all the Roman factions, the units would shout 'Imperator' when clicked on.

Now I'm playing the Greek City States and the units are saying something that sounds like 'Scrappy Horse'.

What are they actually saying and what does it mean?

What do the other factions say?

Scrappy horse could mean strategios. I'm not sure how to write it.

yep, strategos or whatever

greek name for general

all factions call you general of one type or another except the roman imperator has the victorious general implication.

the voice acting is pretty bad though

Mmh, no, it's quite bad, sorry.
The romans are good (except for the the horrible herald), but for the rest, there is a definite overacting.
It's not THAT bad, but it's clearly not good either. Not on par with the voices of KOTOR, or Warcraft III, or else.

The Barbarian voices are rather good , and the Roman Generals when giving pre-battle speeches are reasonable , it's merely the rest of them that blow .
I've said it before and I'll say it again : I'm convinced the "Eastern" voice actor found the dialogue hilarious , he only just resists the urge to laugh out loud in several places in his script .
"The smell worse than any camel , is this ludicrous script ! Men , we can use this dialogue to fertilise the entire siani and retire as wealthy farmers !"

Oye !

I never heard it as anything but strategos(correct spelling). Although I didn't realize it meant General. Maybe it comes from being able to speak more than one language!?

Playing last night I payed closer attention to the unit responses.

Some of them are saying 'stratehos' phonetically I guess it's like the Greek gyros (I always know how to pronounce food )

Others say 'strategos'. Like the typical language deaf American.

The word is στρατηγός (stratēgos). It means "general." The transliteration is classical—in modern Greek, the letters are pronounced differently.

Strategos. The Eastern/Carthaginian mid-battle voices when the enemy general routs or dies are well-done. "The enemy general flees like a frightened child . . ." or "Who will mourn the death of the cowardly Roman general, perhaps his only wailing catamite?" I didn't get that one exactly right, but they are HILARIOUS!

My personal favorite 'what the hell did he say' moment is when I first heard...

BALLS OF ARTEMIS!!!

Or more properly translated... "Bows of Artemis!"

This may sound VERY strange and is. I don't know if anyone has heard it but I'm almost sure, unless my hearing is getting bad.

I was looking at a unit of cohort walking into a sap point. The digging had already begun. Then I heard something strange. The sound was if someone had farted and then I heard a voice that said:"ohhh, i'm sorry."
Has anyone heard that? Or is my mind just really out of order?

No, you're not hearing things. Use Vercingetorix's .pak extractor application to extract the game's audio files and then check out the sounds for yourself. Sighing, throat clearing, sneezing, spitting, farting, etc., it's all there.
