    Default Lost - Your opinion

The series has started 2 months ago in France, and although I usually hate the series we can watch every summers, I think this one is really great.

The characters are all interesting. Some looks like people we would never meet in real life (John Locke, Jack, Sawyer), but there are also some who at fist appear to be really 'lambda' people (Hurley, the star wars geek, Shannon, the annoying little b****).

Actually, I think I'll turn mad if I don't understand wtf is happening on this island in the next saturday 3 episodes.

What's your opinion about this series ?

If there's already a topic about Lost, sorry, but I found nothing with the search option

yes , I've been following the series closely- and I really like it.
In fact it's the only serie I've been following in a really long time...

In Holland it'll be on the tv again in about 3 weeks -I think, so I will deffinatley watch it again.

I love Lost. My favorite TV series ever. I can't wait until the next season starts. Don't expect to many answers, though at the end there are some.
My favorite characters are Hurley, Charlie, Sawyer, and Locke is very... intersting. Jack is too bossy. Oh, and I like Kate...

3 episodes on one night? I guess France is catching up to the series’ season 2 which starts 21st of September this year.
I can say it is the one show I followed earlier this year. That is until I regretfully missed an episode and had to download it from the Internet.
What to say? Disney sure knows how to make TV…

It's a great show about 41 (or so) people who crash land on a wierd ass island. The great part is, every episode they have flashbacks for one of the character to help explain how he/she is there, and why he/she is how they are.

I love "Lost" too. It's in re-runs in the US right now, but my girlfriend still has it on religiously every week. Great characters, interesting, original, overall great show.

By the way, where are you guys (plotwise) in France (and elsewhere)? Just wondering because I don't want to give anything away that you haven't seen yet.

well in Holland we're at the part where a loty of the characters ( all of them maybe ? ) have had their episode.
The last one was IIRC where Boon got his episode...but that's what I think , Kind of forgot where we were.

In France, I think we just had the episodes #19, 20 and 21 saturday.
The last one title is "Do no harm" in english.

And yeah, John Locke is awesome. If I wasn't supposed to turn into a Ninja later (cause they have the ultimate power), I would probably turn into a John Locke.

My only complain is Jack, this guy is just too good. I guess they had to have some charismatic and smart hunk to lead the band.

Now, I'm quite annoyed because I missed episodes 1,2,3 and 13, 14, 15. Hopefully, I'll find them on the net. Otherwise, I'll wait for the soon-to-be-released DVD.

I've seen bits and pieces of this show. I have this theory(not a spoiler, just a guess) that they are all in either purgatory or hell. I remember reading about a play that had a group of castaways learning they were in hell. Maybe that idea was used.

BTW in aus the last episode was the one where they were fighting for places to get on the raft

Dutch_guy, each character gets multiple spotlights. We still don't know a whole lot about them, really. Just bits and pieces. And I think there are going to be more characters introduced (well, still castaways, but we've never seen them before, or only in passing).

Menedil, Jack gets less annoying as time goes on, but I agree with you. I much prefer Sawyer's asshole swagger, or Kate's in the middleness.

    Lost is captivating and addictive.
    I've seen all episodes.

The biggest riddle seems to evolve around the numbers.
The numbers that Hurley won the Lottery with, the numbers that appear
on the hatch etc. It seems that every single number of these is connected
to or has a special meaning for the characters.
Also, what about the child that was born on the island (white) and the young black boy?
Do you remember when the mother of the newborn baby (can't remember any names atm)
went to this religiously motivated "fortune teller" ? He told her that her child would be something
special and would need protection from evil. Locke explains the difference of black and white
when teaching the black boy backgammon. There've been a lot of other references to black and white
    and dark and light etc.
Is this about the devil's son and a new messiah battling it out? Too far fetched?

Btw, the respective boards are a mess.

    Don't flatter yourself...
We are all in the same boat (yeah, that includes Americans) waiting for season 2 to start this September.

[edit]: It seems you can flatter yourself a little, reading the posts after yours it becomes obvious that not all of the European nations have aired all of season 1.
    Maybe they are re-runs?

In Germany they started when the US-season was almost finished and it's still running.
Scandinavian countries get those programs earlier because they seldom synchronize.
England will also get them pretty early.
I think only the US stations are doing re-runs of the season yet.

I stopped watching when I realised that it had become a soapie promising big each week but failing to deliver anything concrete.

I also grew disillusioned when I found out that the writers don't even know the ending, they're making it up as they go.

Meh, I've got nothing against the acting or directing and some of the inner-stories and their telling is good stuff, but I lost interest with the show after a while.

I officially hate ABC. The way they are doing reruns suck. I mean, they were going all in order, then went from episode 9, skipped 10, and went to 11 last week. This week, it's the 14th episode. What? Cancel all that stupid reality crap, and show us all of the reruns!
I can't wait for the DVD...

    It depends.
If you're American, have HDTV and a digital recorder you
can make an excellent digital recording. This is as legal as
recording on VHS-tape. If you happen to miss the air-date and download the episode, I don't see that you're doing something illegal. You're only
using a different source for something you could've done yourself.

Another example would be if you're English and the BBC, which you pay for
as a british citizen, broadcasts something. In that case I'd argue that it's
public property of all British citizens. (Same goes for German puplic TV.)

If you're Scandinavian or German and download American TV episodes right
after they aired in the US....well that's illegal I'm afraid.

I watched all 3 (Thank you E4!) and I must say I'm hooked. Great show! I'll probably import the DVD set from America when it comes out in September. That way I get to watch it months earlier and without the breaks.

The polar bear is not explained in the first season. (It's not impossible, though, just think of polar bears in zoos in warm countries)
The monster is not explained either but you will get more hints at what it might be.
    Spoiler:
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
There're several encounters with the monster. You never really see it, though.
Locke survives at least one encounter, after which he develops a strange connection
to the island. On a second encounter Jack, Kate, Charlie and Locke first flee from
the monster but then realise that Locke is lagging behind. Jack returns to Locke to
find him struggling with something. They discover that the monster obviously leaves or moves
through subterranean walkways. Combined with the thick cable running into the sea and
the hatch they find it suggests that it may be a machine.

I record the Lost episodes on my digital recordor that comes with the my cable (sort of like a poor man's TIVO). Can't say that I'd ever want to watch it on my tiny computer screen when I can watch it on my Plasma TV, however.

As a Scandinavian I downloaded an episode that I missed when it was aired here in Norway (we were only a couple of episodes behind the US in season 1). Was that illegal? If not, at which point does it become illegal? Which law is broken? Distributing material that has been broadcasted, is that really illegal?
