Thread: larger than normal unit sizes

Default larger than normal unit sizes

don't know if some one else has discovered this, i generally stick to the modding sections of this forum, but i found out that you can create unit sizes of 200+, for a unit that has a normal size of 160.
this is easiest to explain by way of example.

you have two units of legionary cohorts that have both taken losses, let's say one unit has 100 men , and the other has 68,
step one: go to the retrain tab and retrain both of them
step two: down on the army tab at the bottom of the screen, click and drag the 100 man unit on top of the 68 man unit, to combine the forces
step three: change the city tab from retrain to recruitment, you will see the numbers on the 2 units change, one will now be 160 and the other will be 8. close the city screen and don't come back untilthe next turn

when you come back next turn, one unit will be of size 252, and the other will be of size 8

make sure you do this with units that can be created in that city so that normally they would be fully retrained to regular size

i find this especially useful with archers, and cavalry, i had an archer auxillia unit of 300+, 300 some odd arrows rainin down on fools, awesome, and great for the defense of city walls.

    hope that made sense.

you don't have to be scared about opening the screen again.

If you have 5 units of 40 hastati (I play on small) and 1 unit of hastati with 1 man, place the one man unit in the retraining queue, merge a 40 man unit into the 1 man unit and place the new one man unit into the queue etc,

you end up with 5 units of 79 hastati and 1 unit of 40 hastati in 1 turn.

do this for newly conquered cities will generate uber sized units in no time and also rapidly deplete the population so you can push on faster.

If the units get above 255 men or so, I've heard the game crashes if you try entering a battle. I'm pretty sure this is irrespective of your chosen unit size in video options.

I've had that happen to me a few times by accident, I find it annoying as it messes up the uniformity of my battle line:p
